Well, that's a weird thing to do but hey... with the recent Supreme Court ruling... I guess it's equal opportunity all around.

I ended up spending two days in Seattle and two days in Vancouver. I had an amazing time. It was unbelievable how friendly people were in both places. I'm sure the fact that the weather was perfect helped, but I can't wait to go back. Not even getting harassed at the border for no reason at all put a damper on the trip. I would also recommend Seattle-Vancouver by car. Thanks to Ziggy, sammy, and shastarocket and all others for all the useful info and suggestions in this thread.

Glad you had fun. It really is a beautiful area.

Issues at the border are common. They're trained to be stern and to poke holes in what you are telling them. You feel like you are doing something wrong even when you're not. LOL. Imagine if you did have something major to hide.

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to eat at any of the restaurants recommended in this thread. But people in Vancouver had good things to say about the place you told me about. I'll try and check it out all the restaurants in this thread next time I go. Also, people in general in both Seattle and Vancouver seemed genuinely nice.

    Seriously?

They're all over the place. We went to Crystal Mountain. You can hike to the top and get amazing views of Mt. Ranier and all of the other mountains in the area as far away as Oregon.

I should have rephrased the question.

What is the best 2-3 hour hike in an hour's vicinity of Seattle?

The drive from Seattle to Vancouver is one of the most scenic routes I've ever been on. Also, if you get a chance, take the ferry out to Bainbridge Island. That will give you some stunning views of the city, and Rainier.
