Not talking about placing a to-go order. I'm speaking of not finishing your food at a restaurant when dining in, then asking for a to-go box.

Why would this be uncool? You paid for it, it's yours. I see this at every restaurant I go to, no shame in this.

Yes; but like Seinfeld says, if you're on a date you should probably put your genitals in with it cuz you won't be using them.

It happens plenty, but women seem to look down if a man does it. They say it's cheap looking. I don't even feel right asking for a box on a date. It's a bad look for a dude.

A bartender at Twin Peaks confirmed just now.

It makes you look like a manlet if you can't even finish your plate of food.

    lol

I hear you. Funny thing is, it's usually worth the money NOT to finish the fat, cholesterol, carbs, etc.

When I am on a business lunch that is paid for by someone else, I try not to take to-go food.

    1) Because I have to take it back to my office and put it in the fridge. I usually forget food in there.
    2) I didn't pay for the food

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. You paid for your entire portion. You didn't pay to eat half and then leave the other half at the restaurant.

I was at a post-interview lunch back in November and declined to take a doggy bag, because I'd gotten a cough on the drive to San Antonio, all through the interview and was too congested to take anything down then or for the rest of the weekend. Sickest I've been my entire life.

It depends on the establishment. At most places these days, this is entirely acceptable. However, at some higher end places, its unacceptable to take food to go. I'd advise anybody to check out "Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior," by Judith Martin. She goes in-depth regarding questions on mannerly behavior.

Acceptable at most places, unacceptable at higher end places with smaller portions.

The real issue hear is that women would prefer you waste food than look cheap...
