Sad news. I have to say the movie is one I've seen quite a few times just because it's that whole prison-to-freedom story I like and, whenever I turn it on, I tend to watch it. I'm sure they are going to start playing this movie again many times now. I MUST not turn on or watch again. What was interesting about the movie subject matter that they didn't touch on is how Rubin was intimately involved with the female character who helped free him with the others. Apparently, they didn't want to sidetrack the movie by adding that relationship in there. The relationship really developed after he was freed. I think one or two scenes in the movie kind of implied they were closer than what they were showing. But, at one point researching the real Rubin Carter, I could never find a picture of her or much info on her. These people that helped free him were like part of a cult or something where they didn't live open lives versus with a bunch of like thinking people in a closed-off society. For years after he was freed, Rubin and her were romantically involved and Rubin basically lived a life withdrawn from normal society for I think about 5 years after he was freed. I think it was a rocky on-and-off again relationship for a bit. I forget the exact particulars at this point, though. It was kind of strange.
