Stay Classy Dynamo Fan http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=581484&sec=mls&cc=5901 A fan has been banned from Houston Dynamo games indefinitely after an incident Sunday night in which United goalkeeper Louis Crayton had to be restrained. Security personnel escorted the fan from Robertson Stadium after he directed racist language at Crayton near the Dynamo's clubhouse after a 0-0 tie in Houston. "It is so sad that he would say that to me," Crayton said, according to The Washington Post. "I am saying hi to the fans and he walked up to me and told me, 'Hey, you're a monkey, go back to the jungle.' I told him, 'Hey, you can't say that to me. I am not a monkey, I am a human being like you.' " "I jumped over to ask him why he insulted me, and he kept going." Crayton, a native of Liberia, made two saves for United (10-14-4), including one in the last minute of second-half stoppage time, to salvage the draw with Houston (11-5-11). "The Dynamo have informed Major League Soccer of the incident and the identity of the individual, and further actions may be taken," the Dynamo said in a news release.
I think you can ask any Dynamo fan on here who's been to a game. This is an isolated incident and is in no way representative of Dynamo fans. I think your thread title is a bit over the top.
Seriously, this incident is isolated. Dynamo events are the most fan-friendly I've been to in Houston. And of course, alcohol always brings out the worst in people, especially those with racist undertones.
That's sort of a generic thread title when events like this happen. I wasn't demeaning the entire Dynamo fan base.
We should just replace 'Houston Dynamo' with 'Utah Jazz' and everybody would be fine. It's not much of a conversation starter to say the least.
"Fans" means "everyone who cheers for such team", I believe. I respect you, Pun... you can still change the title if you want to change our opinions.
reminds me of when Mutumbo was about to go after someone at the "O-RENA" in Orlando vs. the Magic earlier this year? or was it last year?
I was about to reference that exact same incident. I remember that game. I think it was a preseason or early regular season game in Orlando a couple of years ago. The point is that you can't lump all Orlando fans together because of that one idiot. Cubs fans... now, that's a different story.
the opinions of one represent the collective as a whole. ALWAYS. I know Kam is a Dynamo fan and he uses a lot of racist language.
I haven"t been to a dynamo game since last year, and all i witnessed then, was fellow fans offering me snacks and colorful flags of guevara. It felt like i was back in the motherland. All this is... is one totally wasted fan, who thought he was magically teleported to europe. I think lil pun just hates soccer. =)
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/10/craytons_mail.html Crayton's Mail DCU goalkeeper Louis Crayton, the target of racially insensitive remarks made by a Houston supporter on Sunday, said he has been overwhelmed with apologies and kind comments from the Dynamo and its fans. The number of e-mails has surpassed 150 and he received a letter shipped overnight from the Houston organization (President Oliver Luck and Coach Dominic Kinnear). "I am very happy for the step the Houston fans and authority have taken. It was a situation that should never happen to anybody. I appreciate the response. It would make anyone feel better that they are against what happened, and that is very important because we are all created equal. No matter what happens, your color, your race, it doesn't make you better than anybody." Crayton said on United's behindthebadge.com that he also received "a heartfelt letter from the man that confronted me after the game and aid some very hurtful things. I accept his apology and hope that this incident helps us all move forward together in the future."
