SI justed published NBA salary report. KG has the highest, with 22M/year. For the Rockets, T-Mack has some thing like 19M. Yao has 13M. What do you think? All those numbers are astronomical figures. I can't imagine what I can do with the money.

However, Do you think the salary is prety fair? Or otherwise, we might be losing good players if other teams use salary as a bait.

Should have signed a 5 year, 1MM per year contract with Chuckie. That would be the steal of the decade something.

As far as are they enough?? I don't know. There was a site I saw with last years numbers compared to production where it showed who was earning their millions and who was underpaid for what they contributed to the team. Chuck of course was one of the ones underpaid last year.. which is why the site caught my eye. I am going to have to see if I can find that site again so I can share it :)

Nothing big ... his salary is only 11th highest in the league. You should see Kobe's wages.

Also interesting to note that Yao is listed among the most underpaid players in the league even though his contract is maxed out through 2011. And I can't say I disagree ... he's making just about $12 mil this year, and you could easily find three bigs making even more money that couldn't hold his jockstrap put together.

What did surprise me, though, is that the Rockets' salary situation is actually ranked 19th in the league. Given the likelihood of a substantial increase in the salary cap in the next few years, this bodes very well for our future as a team.

I'm just glad we have our whole starting lineup, minus Hayes, locked up for the next four years. If we can keep surrounding them with the right role players this team could do some great things.

Eh, considering that every players' salary also increase from year to year I don't think we'll have enough room to make any big additiong outside of signing someone new to an MLE contract each season. But with Yao, TMac, and Battier locked up we shoudln't need many big signings anyway.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned juwan yet.

I read salary and rockets and immediately thought he would get destroyed in this thread.

    How dissapointing.

From what I gathered not too long ago, it is quite likely that in the next few years we will see a major increase in the salary cap (possibly pushing on $70 mil). It was supposedly the reason why LeBron and co. opted to sign contract extensions for only three years. Given that our max players are locked up (TMac & Yao) and several of our key players (Battier, Head, Alston) are also locked up for quite a while, if the salary cap does increase before the end of the decade we would most likely be well under it.

Well if it increases that much than we would definately have enough money to go after another max FA. I don't remembering hearing about it though. I thought LeBron signed the three year deal to see how the Cavs were doing and possibly move to a bigger market if they weren't going anywhere. But I guess that wouldn't make much sense for Wade and whoever else to follow LeBron's lead if they weren't going to increase the salary cap. Do you the reason behing the big increase?

Great info, tracymingreedy. Thanks for the info.

p.s. not to nitpick, but I think you meant to attribute the quote in your signature line to Avery Johnson. Every Johnson is a broad generalization about male genitalia.

I'm pretty sure that was the rationale that was given for it, and apparently LeBron was the first to do it, then D-Wade and Melo followed suit. If the salary cap goes up, the teams who are doing relatively well salary wise now will be the first to benefit, while others like Dallas and New York will be hating themselves forever. (Especially the Knicks, when LeBron James signs a $22 mil/year contract with the Brooklyn Nets).

Two reasons...that was the number of years required to sign a starting caliber PG to half an MLE deal and Carrol Dawson's crystal ball was broken the day of the Sura signing and he was not able to predict the future health conditions.

No way T-Mac is overpaid when you compare him to what similar players make. Sure, his production is down a bit due to his willingness to defer, his shot not falling and being injured so much but that still doesn't mean I don't think he's worth the price we're paying. That's just the going rate for elite superstars.
