[rQUOTEr]Bill Simmons is leaving ESPN NBA countdown and launching his own NBA show – “The Grantland Basketball Show” — this Fall, two sources tell The Big Lead.

Simmons, who spent the last three years on NBA Countdown, will star on the show, which begins October 21st at 8 pm on ESPN. There will be 18, 1-hour episodes that air throughout the NBA season and through the NBA Finals. Grantland contributors are expected to be featured prominently.

ESPN is expected to make an announcement later today.

It’s unclear who ESPN will replace Simmons with on NBA Countdown, but last year when Simmons nearly left the show, Stephen A. Smith lobbied for himself. It’s unclear how much recent events have hurt his chances.

This is a bad move. Why in the world would you leave a national network to run a rinky dink show on a channel nobody will watch.

I mean, control is one thing, but exposure is far more important. To me this is a crazy move if it is true.

I enjoy the product on his site MUCH more than the things he says on ESPN. Even if it is a risky (bad) move for him financially, I hope that he brings the style of his site to the show and perhaps it will end up being a big deal.

I actually enjoy his videos he makes for the Grantland website, far more entertaining than what he does on NBA Countdown

    looking forward to it

Surprising Since ESPN seemed to give Bill Simmons the reigns on the NBA Countdown cause he wanted to Rival TNT's Inside the NBA, too bad Simmons or the others have no charisma together on Air.

Even with all the Dwight Hate on TNT i would rather listen to them then the Bore that is NBA countdown

I ****ing hate Bill Simmons. Sucks the life and fun out of everything, pisses off his fellow coworkers, and brings his elitism to every segment he is in. Not to mention his annoying Celtics bias.
Everything about him just screams MASSIVE DOUCHE.

Yes! He was not a good fit on that at all. I agree with Dhoward12. Countdown sucks. I wish NBC still had the rights.

I agree with just about everything you said but I still enjoy reading his articles. He's a good sportswriter, just a really whiny, bland TV personality.

    Good because he's annoying.

It shouldn't be that hard but TNT is killing them

Sounds like a good thing to me. ESPN needs to rework NBA Countdown.

The best part of this move is getting Zach Lowe on ESPN. There is a real dearth of intelligent basketball analysts on that channel.

Hopefully this will somehow mark the beginning of the end for Simmons. I hope the new show flops. He's such a weasel!
