I don't usually post thread..but I have had enough. Games where Rockets shot 5 FTs the entire game.. Chicago Game Officials: Karl Lane Ed Malloy Leon Wood Memphis Game Officials: Karl Lane Josh Tiven Ken Mauer
Who cares? We'll get screwed down the line by another pair of incompetent officials at no consequence.
There's no denying it, that last call was horribly missed. And it cost us free throws by our best free throw shooter with under 10 seconds left of a tied game in one of the most important games of the season. That hurts. But as fans, it is a heck of a lot easier for us. Whenever there is a play, we can watch the super slow-motion replay on the big screen at Toyota Center or watch the replay on our TV. How easy is it for us to react after we see that? How often during a game is a call made and the fans don't react much but then after the replay everyone starts booing when they see that the refs missed the call. It sucks. They missed a crucial call. How hard would it be to make that call in real time at gamespeed? We can't have instant replay after every single play- the game would last forever. I'm glad that I'm not a referee. Although I would probably call a foul on the other team on almost every play...
As an NBA referee, claimed the be "the best referees in the world" by the NBA, you CANNOT miss that call. I understand missing calls, but that was a very, very easy call. Non-debatable, and obvious whether in slow motion or in real speed.
Here's the thing. They are PAID to do this. It's not charity work. And everyone in the arena saw what happened but the 3 of them didn't? And if that's not enough consider the following. If the player hit the ball and not the arm shouldn't the ball go DOWN? Isn't this like Officiating 101's first rule? Lastly...for whatever reason....decided to swallow the whistle tonight. So we shot 6 FT's for the game, 1 in the 2nd half and Harden only had 2 for the game. That's either incompetence or the officials are being told to officiate the game a certain way. Neither of these is acceptable to me. I'm not willing to cut them any slack at all.
I never knew his name before now, but Ken Mauer has always looked like a psychopath to me. He also looks like someone stretched a decaying human skin over a poorly-shaped dummy. Something that is clearly fundamentally wrong with the league is that it is possible to call something a flagrant foul, then go look at it on the screens to try to judge intent. Intent is something almost nearly impossible to judge; we have a whole court system that struggles with it daily. Meanwhile, it is impossible to simply review footage just to see IF a foul occurred, something that it easily told from video. **** the two-minute review crap after the game. Give coaches a couple of challenges like the NFL except include fouls as something that can be challenged. Allow them to force the refs to look at the video. Right now, the review system is downright paradoxical. In fact it's so stupid, it screams rigged.
