From The Wall Street Journal An official admits the tax agency pursued tea party groups in the 2012 election season. TIME article The Washington Post
The Administration does not discriminate. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/29/us/29surveillance.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
I would think it would be smart to target groups who openly question role of government and taxes. Equivalent of "DEA targets suspected pro pot organization"
you mean there's a rational state basis to discriminate between people who think taxation is theft and are fervently against the federal government collecting taxes when it comes to tax time--- as opposed to banning gay marriage for no reason? One is law, the other isn't. must hurt to have the boot applied on the other side.
IRS targeting groups that oppose the President politically, smh IRS also going after Jewish groups Yep, we're all just paranoid about tyranny. Nothing to worry about folks.
They've known this was going on since 2011! http://bigstory.ap.org/article/irs-apologizes-targeting-tea-party-groups
Opposing a law doesn't make you a criminal. Discrimination is discrimination. You are no different than cops targeting black people. There is a word for people like you. Hypocrisy.

It sure makes you a target. Laughable to say it's the same as targeting someone for what they born as. Being an anti government cray cray is a choice.
You seem to think its ok to discriminate against a group of people you assume are breaking the law. No, its not ok to do this, regardless of their political affiliation, race, or religion.
Am I reading it differently than everyone else? I don't think their tax stance has anything to do with the investigations. It isn't like they were trying to see if anti-tax groups were not paying taxes. They were seeking tax exempt status and the IRS was delaying it because of their political position. This only hurts their ability to raise monies and effectively campaign for the causes they want to.
So basically someone didn't want them pouring any last minute money into the campaign before the election. Makes sense.
From the not so distant past: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444464304577537233908744496.html
It says the scrutiny started in 2011 so it doesn't sound like a last minute election thing here. It may be that a lot of these groups started popping up rather quickly which raised a red flag but it doesn't really say anything about motivation.
