Costs a bunch to do it at their store. Look for other options around town. If you work near downtown there is a place I went to just this week to repair my iPad 2. It was cheaper than other options I found.
There is a place near Fry and Morton of a guy who does screen repairs and other types of iPhone/iPad fixes. I can't think of the name of the place, but it's inside a shipping and box-selling and phone-selling place on the north east corner. Google-map it.
throw it out and get a galaxy s3... it has gorilla glass 2 and plastic backing. You wont have to worry about dropping it. Problem solved.
If you're on the west side of town there's a place on Eldridge / Briar forest called full bars cell phone repair. They replaced a screen on my mom's 3G for about $70. The guy that runs the place is very nice, and he's usually pretty quick with the repairs as well. http://www.fullbarscellrepair.com/store-locations.php
If Apple doesn't cover it through warranty (making the trip to the Genius Bar make sense), you can go to a chain of phone repair places called Cell Phone Repair (CPR). I took my android phone there (Shenandoah location) once to be repaired for water damage and the phone came back as good as new. They should be able to quote you a replacement cost over the phone.
Are you under warranty? If not....you can buy a screen on Ebay and do it yourself. Screen will cost $35-$45....comes with tools. I have done it twice. Instruction are on ifixit.com
If you think you can break a galaxy s3...u are smoking something. the iPhone 4/4s both have Gorilla glass.
All cell phones are FRAGILE....BUY A CASE! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/K7e9ebi41Wc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Kidding aside, I do iPhone screen replacements as well. $40 for the work and then whatever the cost of the part is. If interested, let me know and I can give references or contact me through the board.
