He would end up with like 12x-15 All star selections, that's pretty much first ballot. You have to also add in that he'd pretty much be near a 20-10 career point guard. It would be Magic and Big O territory.
I think he's borderline first-ballot already, and yeah in 5 years he should have 12-15 All-Star selections unless he falls off a cliff or gets hurt. That should put him over the top for first ballot. Just pointing out how crazy Stockton's stats were - takes a combination of durability, longevity, and preternatural skill to compile those kinds of numbers
That's why I use Stockton as a comparator, the two are similar in terms of the raw stats they produce, with Stockton getting nods for shooting efficiency and durability and Paul getting a nod for defense. As good as Stockton was, Paul's 08-09 campaign was one of the best individual statistical seasons of any PG ever. But Paul needs to keep up this efficiency for another decade to catch Stockton's prolific assist and steal totals; that kind of production is mind-boggling. Hopefully Paul gets the ring that always seemed to elude Stockton.
Chris Paul is #2 all time in Career AST% with 46.79 behind Stocktons 50.24 AST% CP3 is also #2 all time in playoff AST% behind Stockton. (Surprisingly DWill is top 10 in both regular season and playoff career AST%) Stockton has 7 of the 10 highest AST% seasons including the best 3 seasons ever, with Chris Paul at #4
So then you agree that Stockton is a good comparator for Paul? That's the only argument I am making here. I'm not calling Paul better than Stockton.
CP3 has a higher career assist to turnover ratio (3.99) than John Stockton (3.72) and also higher than all the great NBA point guards in the consensus top 10. To go with that, he led the league in steals 6 times and drops almost 20 points per game to boot. From an advanced statistics standpoint, these stats make him among the most valuable players ever even though it doesn't translate to championships. To me, CP3 is exactly why advanced analytics don't tell the whole story in basketball because there are so many moving parts in basketball and also quite a bit of random luck in the playoffs. In addition, he has been all NBA first team 4 times, second team 2 times, and third team 1 time as well as all defensive first team 5 times and second team 2 times. How could anyone say he is not a hall of famer? Even if the basketball hall of fame was as strict as the baseball hall of fame, CP3 would still make it.
