(Music) Best Band of Each Decade

    I've been going through alot of my favorite albums lately, and what I see declining a in an alarming rate is a near death of the BAND. I would say that music now has been better than ever so maybe more isn't always better, but I thought it was a great time to go back in history and pick the greatest collaborations of each era of Rock & Pop music.

    I wanted to give a full detailed analysis of why I'm picking these bands, but I'll have to come back in and spoiler my reasoning. For now, I'll give you my picks, and let you guys & girls list your own & please, please, please... feel free to disagree.

    I will say that I really wanted to make my decisions based on groups that I felt really pushed music into uncharted territory and really moved the needle for the next generation to plug into uncharted territory. Also keep in mind that while some bands like Radiohead, where technically formed in the 90's, but I wanted to put them in the correct era for where they were in their prime, and more exploratory.

    I'll start with the 60's which is when I feel the term "Band" really took a new meaning.

    Since 2010, are there really that many collaborations, or Bands that are really pushing music into uncharted territory? Or am I really just too much in the moment, and are there bands right now that will be more appreciated in future years.

    also the 2 albums i like best are the bends and ok computer which came out in the 90's

    so for me it is the same though.

    the beatles
    pink floyd
    and i guess i could go with the cure
    radiohead
    uhmm i have no idea for the 00's maybe outkast... i know my favorite albums would probably Interpol be turn on the bright lights or outkast aquemini

    I mostly agree with your list, except I would have made Depeche Mode the best 80's band and Radiohead the best 90's and 00's band. Never been a fan of The Cure or Nirvana. Honorable mention to Sublime in the 90's.

    Also, My Life with Michael Keaton's soundtrack should be in the mix. That defined a generation....

    I went with them for the band of the 2000's because I feel personally that the Post Kid A Radiohead really had more influence on their era despite the hits of the 90's like Creep that you'll find at karaoke night at the bar.

    Then again, post Kid A pretty much became the Thom Yorke era, but I have a feeling the rest of the band probably kept him grounded enough to work their fans progressively into new sounds.

    Still pretty Amazing that a band can peak in 2 decades like that.

    I think the most consistent band of the 2000's were the Arctic Monkeys.

    Maybe should have at least mentioned Rush as well. Probably more popular than ever now. Really shows how ahead of their time they were.

    Radiohead released Kid A in the 00s which by itself is better than any other album that decade. Add Amnesiac which is basically the Kid A B-side, Hail To the Theif, and the sublime In Rainbows, and its pretty hard to argue against their 00s body of work. The only other two albums even close to Kid A would be Arcade Fire's Funeral and Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights.

    Animal Collective would be the strongest challenger to Radiohead for best of the 00s for me as Feels, Strawberry Jam, and Merriweather Post Pavilion are all exceptional.

    I love Kid A, but I guess I'm one of those simpletons who still think OK Computer is by far their most superior album with The Bends probably 2nd or 3rd behind Kid A.

    To me Amnesiac clearly sounded like the B-Sides album that it was and Hail to the Thief was simply not very strong IMHO. I did think In Rainbows was superb though.

    Yeah I know. I was trying to fit all of my choices in. Too many good ones for 70's and not enough for the 90's. :/

    Agree on both points, HTTT is not without some great moments but overall lacks the cohesion of more fluid albums like the previous titles. Kid A I think is the most transcendent rock album ever made. OK Computer is a big, meaty plate of rock goodness, then they reinvent the wheel and create something so off the wall you don't really even know how to process it for a while and its really almost above human comprehension.

    To me, In Rainbows is not their best work, but it has an undeniable sexiness and intimacy that makes it an enjoyable listen every time. Not transcendent like Kid A or all powerful like OK, but just a ****ing good record.

    Damn, now I'm stoked for their next album. Hopefully it will make up for The King of Limbs being a bit of a letdown.

    Nirvana seems incomplete to me, heck I'd go foo fighters over Nirvana if you asked me.
