    OK, it is time.

A few interesting state polling numbers out today:

Obama is obliterating Romney in NC among people under 30 and voters from the Triangle and has a substantial lead among independents.

    Meanwhile, in Colorado:
Those two states seem to be part of a national trend:

If Obama has a double digit lead in CO and is doing well in NC, I suspect we'll be able to tell very soon how much money Romney can bring to the table and whether the Citizen's money will stick with him or flock to the Congressional races. This has the potential to be over quickly.

Also, the conventions are only separated by a week with the Repubs going first. I can't remember such a short time between conventions, but regardless, whatever bump Romney and mate might get out of Tampa, it will quickly be eclipsed by the Dem convention.

Can't really say on electoral vote count but, nationally, my bet is Obama by 5%.

I won't be off by very much.

Salon had an article saying Romney doesn't appeal to blue collar voters.

The GOP needs to do what they did in '04, make it about social issues- maybe even race.

The campaigns havent actually started yet. These numbers mean very little.

Colorado isn't shocking. It's one of those states that is having its demographics work in the favor of Democrats. The immigrants to Colorado tend to vote democrat and are forming much of the state's growth. Give it 10 years and Colorado will be a solid blue state. Hell give Texas 10 or 15 years and it might become a swing state based on demographics.

North Carolina is a little shocking. I honestly still think Romney will carry it but it will be close. I think Obama is coasting there just based on how bad Romney looks. As time goes on and the fight gets dirty, we'll see how public perception changes. NC was one of those semi-surprising wins in 2008 and I'm just not counting on Obama to get any of those again.

What those polls do show is how destructive the primary was for Republicans. Mitt came out looking terribly from the whole process. Republicans just needed someone who could spout their garbage but do so in a way that connects and instead they nominate a multi-millionaire who looks completely out of touch.

Heard on the local radio this morning that support for Obama was 52% while only 36% supported Romney. This was a New Mexico poll and we are a swing state Bush in 04 Obama in 08.

Yeah but that's a dem leaning swing state. Bush won because Bush did extremely well with latinos. He got around 45% of latinos in 2004. Romney isn't even getting half of that according to polls right now.

Romney has zero chance at New Mexico.

Early polls don't mean much. Right now because of the bruising primaries, Romney is wounded while Obama has trended upward recently. But there are 7 months to go. Inertia will kick in, Obama's electoral weaknesses will be magnified by Republicans, they will find 2-3 lines of attack that resonate with large chunks of voters and Romney will close well as election day approaches (assuming he doesn't go insane and choose a dimwitted VP like Sarah Palin).

I don't believe Obama can win big. It will get very bumpy for him later on.

I think in the end, the popular vote will be fairly close (less than 5% margin), but Obama will win comfortably in the electoral college.

Romney makes me a little uneasy in the stomach. While Romney was by far my least favorite candidate in the primary, I will gladly support him in the general election. The thought of four more years of Obama is terrifying.

I have no problems with Romney but I have the feeling he will go like McCain and change some diction to get core support. Even if he doesn't he will be accused of it. Out of all of the republicans I fear him the least but I don't think he excites republicans enough (just like McCain) to get the high turnout needed to win. Hardliners don't like him or McCain.

My official prediction is Obama sees a second term with a Republican house senate. That combo has worked well for the USA in the past. Hopefully Obama kicks Pelosi in the nuts and gets stuff done.

How is that possible, to me he is like a semi-conservative Al Gore robot.

God save us from Romney. The economy isn't strong enough to handle another round of conservative shenanigans.

He has flipped flopped on WAY too many things. I have no problem with what he has been saying in the primaries. I have a problem with Romneycare and all the things he said when running for and being governor of Mass. If we get the Romney who has been running for President we will be okay. If we get governor Romney we are in trouble. Either would be better than four more years of Obama so I will support him just like Mc Cain(who made me sick too).

I could have voted for the governor Mitten, but not this sucking up to the far right Mitten.

If he is elected, he would be more than likely to follow the extreme wing of the party. I will not be voting for him. Why is it that moderate Republicans have to listen to the extremists in the Republican party?

Like Mr Obama, Romney is a secret doppelganger who is pro choice, pro gay marriage, pro universal healthcare. Once elected we'll have all that. It's really a win win election for liberals

What is so extreme about Obama? Did he start an elective war that lasted for more than 10 years and costed trillions? Did he get the country into the worst recession since great depression?

He tried to implement a Republican health care plan that was first adopted by Romney himself and proposed by Mccain and is being called a communist and socialist. He have tried to listen to the Republicans and implement their ideas and proposals only to the them try every thing they know to stop any and all his ideas.

Please specify his extreme ideas that scares you so much. The only extremists in Washington today are the Republicans.

Unless by extreme you mean any Democrat that is elected.
