His unofficial spokesperson thinks so and Phil wouldn't be interested in a team unless he sees a championship caliber superstar in place already https://twitter.com/lazenby
If that makes Jackson the Zen-master of coaching basketball, does that mean Dwight Howard is the Zen-master of playing basketball?
Dwight Howard is not that. He might want to consider bumping Spo from his job, or making OKC fire Brooks so he can coach Durant
Jackson got swept with Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Artest, and Odom what makes him think he can coach a team with Howard, minus two or more of the above guys, plus an ailing 39 year old Nash? that's a recipe for disaster. swept under Jackson, lost 4-1 under Brown, swept under D'Antoni in the first round. that's going down 1-12 over the last three playoff exits. when will Laker Nation realize at some point it's not about the coach? D'Antoni just closed on a 6 million dollar home near the Lakers practice facility and home office. Mike D is here to stay.
Do people really write 50 tweets in a row to get around the 140 character limit rather than posting their "article" online somewhere? I abhor how some media people use Twitter.
It aint happening. Kobe is coming off of a serious injury, and his defense slipped to an all time low..... Gasol is getting older, and is having issues with his knees.... Nash is old and his defense is horrible....... Artest is slow and Howard is not a back to the basket center.
I agree, I think Mike is there. How that affects Dwight Howard or if Mike is let go 5 games into the season, who knows. Just bought a home, clearing out the coaching staff(including the last link to Phil in Chuck Person), bringing in his own guys (or just cutting down the staff). Laker fans will still be calling for Phil when Phil hits his grave. "We want Phil! We want Phil! Come save us Phil!"
its just an informal 2 way communication street. Dozens of people retweeted and shared what Lazenby wrote so obviously its effective. It was just early morning thoughts thats all
The lakers (and their myopic fans) need to realize that the Kobe era is just about over. This year was their last chance of adding one more championship and we all know how that went. It's over.
Mike D will get paid as a scout even if he gets fired. A 6 mil house doesn't mean anything. Mike B = Coddler who can't do anything except run horns and his strong corner offense, which is basically a low post ISO. Took Pau out of the post and made him run plays from the top of the key. Nobody else was allowed in the paint except Bynum and Kobe. Wanna know why Matt Barnes looks good this year? Because Del Negro lets him slash in the paint. Cut Goudelock in favor of keeping DJO lol. Every post game had no clue what was going on and blamed every loss on poor transition defense, even if the Lakers only scored 70 points. This year, thought the Princeton Offense would be a good strategy and went 0-8 in the preseason and 1-3 in the reg before he got canned Mike D = can't do anything except half court pnr sets even though there's no backup 1 that can get playmake off the pnr. Took him forever to let Dwight post up. No clue what to do with Pau so he benched him. Runs a 7 man rotation that alienated everybody from Jamison to Sacre. And what's funny is the guys that got no spin ended closing out the season because the starters got injured and went on that crazy run. No clue how to deal with egos so he let Kobe run the 1 and turned Nash into a 2. No clue how to work the refs or the media. Phil Jackson = most winning coach in history that will bring back the triangle which would be perfect for this personnel. Dwight would be the strongside low post option, Kobe could be the high post option. A guy like Blake who can't get in the lane wouldn't be a problem since all he'd have to do is pass to the wing and go camp the corner 3. Nash/Pau could run weakside pnr and Pau could finally go back to the low post after all these years camping above the elbow. On top of that, Phil Jackson knows how to deal with egos.
Lol. There's always atleast one dumb post in every thread, and this is it. Comments like "Jackson got swept", "He's a recipe for disaster" only point to how stupidity & basketball don't mix. EVERY coach that has coached 20+ plus years has probably had a bad playoff series. Was Phil supposed to win 20 championships in a row? Does 10 championship in a 2 different eras make him under qualified? Ofcourse it does he got swept
It is all about arrogance. Kobe, Gasol, Nash, Artest and Howard would be amazing if they were all 28 years old, but they are not. Phil isn't in his prime either, he is in his 70's.
This is what annoys me about Phil. Phil, during his NBA coaching career, only coached teams that had superstars on them. I wonder if he'd be as successful with a team of underdogs (but we'll never know since he refuses to coach such a team).
first of all, no one single tweet up above said anything about Jackson wanting to coach the Lakers. Jackson wants an advisory role/seat at the decision making table, that would possibly turn into a Pat Riley-esque role. Jackson knows that next year's Laker team stands no chance to win a championship, with or without Kobe, with or without Howard. RECIPE FOR DISASTER as for the prostate cancer, that doesn't answer for their exit to the Mavs in 2011. that was the beginning of the old slow defenseless Lakers era that grew into what became this year's debacle of a season. George Karl has battled cancer TWICE. prostate as well as neck/throat. he has seen his son battle thyroid cancer. he coached during most of this time, took some time off, lost some playoff series, got Coach of the Year this year and lost in the first round. you think he's making excuses and blaming prostate cancer?
