Not who would you vote for - who do you think will win the 2012 Presidential Election?

I'm always kind of saddened when this is what we have to choose from...it's been like this for over a decade IMO...sigh...

If the economy improves a little, Obama. If it remains bad enough, Romney.

Either Obama or Romney. Depends on the economy and who the major third party candidate is.

The only thing sad is what Barry has to put up with.

If Ron Paul runs as a third party candidate, then Obama in a cake walk.

Interesting thought. He isn't running for reelection to Congress, and has been written off by most of the Republican/Fundamentalist/Far Right talking heads in the media for pretty much the whole primary season, so why not? He would be a shoe-in as the Libertarian nominee, would he not? If he wanted it? That would be the perfect scenario for Obama. Either a radical running for the GOP, or Mr. Romney, who would make the more rabid Republicans groan and many to stay home.

You could do a whole debate with Romney taking both sides. Easy campaign ad fodder. Though I don't think The President would need to do that.

Definitely. Romney loses the Bible Belt and the Liberaltarians. It be like the election of 1914.

The only way Romney wins is if the economy really tanks and he picks a running mate who appeals to the Christian Right.

Well Obama has a definite electoral edge going in. He's got CA, NY, Mass, Conn, RI, DC, Il, OR, WA, MI, WI, ME, NJ, HI, DE, and MD.

I think that's like 203 definite, with MN, NH, MI, and PA probable that's a huge deficit for the GOP to overcome.

Mitt would have TX, UT, WY, ND, SD, LA, MS, GA, AL, KY, KS, NE, ID, AZ, KY, TN, WV, SC, AR, OK, ID as definite wins.

That gives Mitt - about 148.

NC, VA, MT, OH, probably all lean toward Romney

With that kind of edge going into the race, I'd say Obama has a very good chance of winning.

Mitt would probably win MA, since he was their governor. New Hampshire is very Republican, and I see Minnesota voting Republican.

Overly-optimistic Dems, listen to me: Republicans of every stripe will vote in droves for Romney next November. They would vote for Barney if he were the nominee because Obama is the opponent. The hard-right's hatred of Obama will energize them more than any candidate of their own could. Put that in the bank.

You guys get overconfident too easily.

Doubt it about MA. The "homeboy" theory didn't work out well for, say, John Edwards or Al Gore as far as I remember.

Also, the Willard that got elected MA Gov was pro-choice, pro-civil union, pro-Romney Care and all that other stuff. The current version of Willard is much less MA-compatible.

It is true. Won't be an election for either side. Obama's at about 50/50 on Intrade, I think, at the moment and that's probably about right.

I think you underestimate how many people there are that will not, under any circumstance, vote for Romney

That's part of my point. Romney needs lightning to strike 3 times, because he has to:

    • Secure the fundamentalist vote without alienating moderates (McCain couldn't do this)
Hope Paul or Cain doesn't run as a 3rd party candidate
Hope the economy drops, I think Obama could eek out a win with 9% unemployment
