Maybe I'm a sucker for PPG, but I see what you're saying. I'll leave it at that with all due respect to your opinion.
top 5-10, that's insane. not even sure if he's top 30. he is a black hole on offense. he takes a high amount of contested jumpers and isn't even that great of a shooter. his one positive on offense is his ability to get to the line. he is an average defender at best and as we witnessed in the playoffs, has a penchant to disappear. here's some numbers if you missed the eye test: regular season raptors with derozan on the court had a net diff of +3.1. with him off the court, it was a net diff of +9.2. in the playoffs, the raptors were a net diff of -6.5 with him on the court and a -1.7 with him off the court. raptors were basically better when he was off the court. he's a fool's gold scorer. the raptors didn't have a choice but to overpay for him, which is why it sucks for them. he should be way better given his natural athleticism, but at best he's a homeless man's kobe.
Not even the max! I'm happy as a Raptor fan. We're never going to be able to draw big name free agents. DeMar/Lowry/JV is about as good as it's gonna get for us.
Derozan is not worth the money, but he was going to get paid anyway somewhere else if the Raps didn't, problem is nobody really wants to go to Toronto. IF you have a guy like Derozan who does, you can't turn him away. BUT, he's not ever going to bring a title to Toronto. Will have to accept making the playoffs and maybe winning a series or two.
