Name one Rocket Killer, present or past, that is not a star player

    I'll do one of each.

    PRESENT

Darrell Armstrong, man he is a huge reason why Orlando wins in Houston every year. He scores like 25 plus points every year at Compaq. He suddenly displays Reggie Miller range when he plays against the Rockets.

    PAST

Nate McMillan, boy that was easy. First the steal he had in game 6 off Dirk Minnifield to eliminate the Rockets in 1987, then the 5 for 5 three point effort in Game 2 in 1996. Those timely shots were killers.

If you can't think of one, then name a player who just bothers you.

Avery Johnson, and Vinnie Del Negro of the Spurs in the old days.

Is Steve "The Canadian Bay City Roller" Nash a "star?" I know he's an all-star, but he plays like Oscar friggen Robinson against the Rockets. This may be the subject for another thread, but nobody has played better against the Rockets with a more dreadful haircut - at least not since Pistol Pete Maravich. It seems like Damon Stoudemire plays really well against the Rockets even when he struggles against most of the rest of the league.

For some reason this question is easier to answer about sub-star Rocket killers of the past. Pete Hanzlik with the Denver Nuggets used to murder the Rockets. Again, this is no unknown, but Derek Harper used to eat us alive when he was with the Mavericks. Like Nash, he rated as an above average guard that elevates his game to God-like status against the Rockets. Good thread and good call on Nate McMillian. If there was a role players Hall of Fame he would go in on the first ballot.

How about anyone that the Rockets play? It seems as if every game, especially at home, someone for the other team has a season or career high whether it be a second-tier or a superstar. I am beginning to think that opponents look at their schedule and circle the Rockets games cause they know there will be no defense. I sure know Sacramento does cause it seems like they never miss when they play us.

But if I had to choose someone.....how about Ruben Patterson?

    Rick Fox.

Have you guys realized that even when Hakeem as on the decline, Shaq was never destroying us. Sure, he always got 20pts, 10reb, 2blk. But he never destroyed us to win the game, like he did with every other team.

Respect for Hakeem? Or does Rudy know the big men too well?

Chris Jackson with the Nuggets. He would totally kill Kenny Smith.

Also, Derek Harper with the Knicks.

Well my current list of guys who never miss a shot against the rockets is Rick Fox (all started when he went 5-5 on 3's one game), Steve Smith (I'm pretty sure he is a career 100% shooter against the Rox), Kerry Kittles (I'm not sure how he got on the list but I think he used to tear us up pre-injury), and Terrell Brandon (he can't be that good normally). Also Mookie Blaylock from his Hawks days. He and Steve Smith used to just tear the **** out of us. I remember one game feeling so unbelievably lucky that we won by one point when Atlanta had 2 seconds to get a last shot. I just knew it would go in.

Yeah, Ruben tore us up last time.

Also, any Sonic from that game in 96 when they hit 20 3's (I'm sure this was Nate's 5-5 mentioned earlier). That was the craziest game ever.

Here are a few off the top of my head:

    Steve Nash
    Ruben Patterson
    Steve Smith
    Dereck Fisher
    Michael Olowakandi
    Corey Maggette
Jason Kidd (Reggie Miller-like shooter against Houston)
    Darrell Armstrong
    Donyell Marshall
    Doug Christie
    Robert Horry
    Eric Piatkowski
    Chris Mihm
    Ander Miller
    Nick Van Exel
    Raef Lafrentz
    Vashon Leonard
    Shawn Marion
    Zydrunas Ilgaskus
    Jalen Rose
    Al Harrington
    Travis Best
    Speedy Claxton
    Kenyon Martin
    Mike Bibby
    Dana Barros
    Jon Barry
    Brent Barry
    Lee Nailon
    Chucky Atkins
    Wally Szczerbiak
    Chauncy Billups
    Terrell Brandon
    Rick Fox
    Tom Gugliotta
    Avery Johnson
    Isaiah Rider
    Kerry Kittles
    Robert Pack
    Mike Miller
    Jeff McInnis
    Jeff Foster
    Anthony Peeler
    Scot Pollard
    Kieth Van Horn

These players always seem to play better against Houston than against any other team.

Any other teams guard...as our 2 guards take a smoke break on defense.

    Yep.

I could swear those two bastards averaged 20 per game against us.

For whatever reason, we always left Del Negro wide open, and we let AJ drive at will.

He killed us because he and Garnett would pick and roll, and we would ALWAYS back off, and TB would nail 15 ft jumpers all day long.

As well as blow by Kenny Smith or Cassell, and draw a foul, getting a 3 pt play 50% of the time.

KJ was the biggest Rocket killer of all during the 90s. He would get 30-40 pts on us at will.

Sam Perkins and anyone else on the SuperSonics of '93-'96. I still say that had the Sonics not faltered in the first round of our two championship years, we would not have been able to beat them when we played them. Remember, they swept us in '96 playoffs.
