    Decision-making factors:
    - The Lakers are projected to be able to offer a contract starting at $19,027,800 and worth $81,248,706 over four years.
    - The salary cap is set to spike in 2016.

If we were to assume the Rockets aren't going to use a lottery pick for a 3-4 month rental of Dragic, this would probably mean the Rockets have to offer something approaching a max contract at about $20 million a year to keep him.

Is he worth that for the Rockets?

If the cost for Dragic is 20 mil, then don't bother dealing for him. If the Lakers wanna pay that this offseason, let them. They can enjoy the lottery for the next 5 years.

I'd be happy if Dragic took the max from the Lakers, its always smart to follow the money

He is worth whatever the market is willing to pay, if Bledsoe is, so is Goran.

He is worth 12 to 14 mill a year.

Only Harden, Lebron, Durant and Davis are worth more than 20 million a year.

So here's the thing: the max this year is suppose to be dwarfed by the new cap when it shoots up the year after next.

Every FA last year and this year will have a slightly inflated salary simply due to the fact that teams expect larger cap space. It's like the market is willing to spend more because they expect more money to spend.

Given that you have to look at the max salary that you give a player now in the context of what you expect the cap to be a couple years from now.

I have no idea but if the cap is 80mm in 2016 and 85mm in 2017 a 19mm salary for a guy like dragic is roughly 23-24% of your cap space. If the cap were to remain at $66mm then 23% of that cap would be about $15mm. Much more in line with he standard salary you expect to pay a guy like dragic.

In the end I don't think he'll get $20mm but just saying you have to adjust for how the market spends given the new salary cap and adjust your expectations accordingly.

TLDR: in this current cap no, in the next cap after the tv money kicks in yeah $20mm isn't out of the realm of possibility

He's not worth it, but he will get it in Free Agency.

    1. Bledsoe didn't get the max. (He only got 82.6% of the max.)

    2. Goran's max (because he is a 7-year vet) is probably going to have a starting salary of somewhere between $18-19 million depending on what the cap goes to this summer.

FWIW, a max deal for Dragic is likely to start in the $18-19 million range (closer to $19 million). A 5-year max deal could run upwards of about $105 million.

Bima any clue what you might think the cap will be in 2016-17?

And do you think teams are spending more now in anticipation of that number? (Including the rockets)?

Evan knowing the cap is going to spike in the summer of 2016 to where a max for a 7 year vet could be 23+ million?

So many people stingy about Les Alexander's money. It's as though you people are slated to inherit the dough when Les dies.

Exactly it's not like if we are going to use the 20 million somewhere else.
