    Saw the player rankings thread, and it got me to thinking. I always had the greatest player of all time conversations with my buddies. But that's a different thing. Invariably, I would always end up in the same place.

    Michael, Dream, Kareem, etc....all awesome....

    But, if I could start a team with one player it would be Magic. The coach on the court that could play every position, the engine that ran those great Laker teams with Kareem on the downside....and against the best competition the NBA has seen. I could list many obvious attributes (coast to coast/greatest passer, big D, etc.) which he possessed, but in the end the objective is to just win, baby...and to me he was and is the man.

    It's so hard. To me, as great as Magic was, I can't choose him over guys like Kareem, Dream, Shaq, Jordan or Lebron. All of those guys were elite defenders too. While Magic was a ball hawk, he never won any honors for his defensive efforts.
