If he was playing in East, no way he would make it to the playoff.
He is certainly an East max player

I agree with this statement as long as the Knicks spend wisely. They will be able to offer a max contract to someone next season and probably still have money to spend.

Well that's really up to them. Melo at 25 mil, plus another max player at 15-25 mil, plus Calderon and some young guys like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Shane Larkin.

That still leaves them with 15-25 mil to spend. That's 15-25 mil of cap space. Another 15ish mil until they hit the tax line. And they are the Knicks, they will go into tax.

They can easily build a two star team with a ton of depth. In fact, if they didn't have a history of terrible decision and excessive meddling by the owner, I would feel very confident about them. Now it's a matter of "ifs" and "can they be smart this time"s. But they are by no means doomed to mediocrity or no depth.

Exactly. 'Melo's contract was never the problem before. It was the crazy long term deals that they dished out to role players that killed them. If they can have discipline on those types of deals, then they can compete.

Knicks will throw big money at more crappy role players next season and repeat the cycle. It's their destiny. My bet is they throw max money at Brook Lopez and / or Klay Thompson.

The Lakers were that team this year. The Celtics were another for a long time, and its not like its been uncharted territory for NY.
