I rather him start fresh next year w/ no injuries. This year is a wash for him.

WAY too early to be calling him a bust.

I won't call him a bust yet. At least the surgery legitimizes why he wasn't playing after the first surgery.

I wouldn't call Clowney a bust yet, but like I said in another thread, bust talk concerning Clowney is valid talk. Hopefully this humbling year is what he needed because I feel things have perhaps come too easily for Clowney. In high school and college he survived on his superior athleticism because he was just so much better than the other players but at the NFL level you have to have the IQ, heart and desire to go along with athleticism to be successful.

I guess we now know what the first opinion said....

Hopefully this was just the first surgeon screwing up and it can be corrected fairly easily. There is a history of failed surgery when it comes to partial lateral meniscectomies and it looks like the guy who did Clowny's failed. What I'm wondering is if they are going to do something radical like a meniscal scaffold, which has had some success, or if they are just going to try to fix what the first surgeon blundered.

Imagine if the Texans had contribution from their draft class. This team is pretty much no different than last years team. Credit to the coaches.

Why does him needing a second surgery mean that the first surgeon screwed up? I really don't think that is the case. You're the one that was pointing out yesterday that lateral meniscus injuries can result in more setbacks than medial meniscal injuries (based on the one article I found based off of one study that they were quoting).

Somehow, some way, that turf will be different next year. I guarantee that.

Well the fact that they are having to do a second surgery means that the first one failed, which suggests that the first guy didn't do it right. The setbacks don't usually require additional surgery unless the first one failed.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>O'Brien says playing on the injury did not make it worse for Clowney. Just never got right. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Texans?src=hash">#Texans</a></p>&mdash; Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) <a href="https://twitter.com/taniaganguli/status/540614970011320320">December 4, 2014</a></blockquote>

If it was "never right" and needs further surgery, it leads me to guess that the first surgery didn't do what it was supposed to. Obviously I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong though.

He also half-assed (and even that is complimentary) his last year in college. If he didn't half-ass it then he was still injured and this is just an extension of his injury-prone self.

Both of those are enough that I was screaming that we shouldn't draft him before the draft. Best(?) case scenario is that he's selfish and flaked out on his college team to protect his $$$.
