Religion, any religion, is expedient to organizing human beings into identifiable groups to promote their self-determination. It allows inhuman violence by invoking the greater power of god as justification for it while offering absolution of it. Groups with inferior military powers use violence (terrorism) as their equalizing tactic. Like a cat puffing up it's back; it gives the greater power pause. Islam seems like the world's scourge because at present, it is the Islamic powers that hold the inferior military and power.

So, you can now quit railing against one religion since you know it is just the basic nature of human beings, economics and politics being expressed within this one snapshot of time. It was someone else 100 years ago and it will be someone else 100 years from now.

Nope, once Islam is finally eradicated after ATW's 87,986th post on the topic on this BBS (give or take a few), all other religions and people of this great earth will live in glorious peace!

There is some truth in what you are posting, but it is also too simplistic. It doesn't take into account that where Islam rules and there isn't any greater power oppressing it, it still promotes inhumane values and oppresses people. Saudi Arabia is not under threat from a power outside of Islam as of right now. They don't need to puff up their back to a force outside of Islam. Yet, internally, they are one of the most inhumane societies on earth.

This is also partly correct, partly incorrect. While Islam does not have a monopoly on being inhumane, it wasn't exclusively someone else 100 years ago. From its inception, Islam has been violent, and it was violent 100 years ago, 200 years ago, 300 years ago, 400 years ago.

Islam was born out of violence. Mohammed organized his people to siege the city of Mecca and then spared the lives of its defenders. It's interesting that the Houthis live in very close proximity to the birthplace of Islam. It's like they never gave up the fight.

He had to say what he had to say. For the position he is in, it was the smart answer.

Sorry, but I didn't understand where you were going with the first part. Are you implying that you think Saudi Arabia could stop selling oil to our allies? That would be a suicidal move on their part imo. If they did that then they would be hurting badly financially and they would be inviting an even bigger push against oil dependence (especially Saudi dependence). My feeling is the Saudis and Middle Eastern oil producers need us a lot more than we need them.

As you mentioned before we need to become less dependent on oil soon. I wish our politicians realized that the best way to end terrorism isn't through anti-democratic covert ops and war but through energy independence. To me it seems painfully clear that the rise in "Islamic" terrorism against America is directly tied to our covert and overt operations in the Middle East starting with the overthrow of the Iranian govt in 1953.

Yes I understand that, but saying that Saudi Arabia engineered the oil price drop makes little sense. They have not raised production and have actually slightly cut production during this drop. Their production has basically been flat since 2011. If they wanted to hurt prices more they would raise production. They are pretty clear when they take these actions. US production and the dollar strength are the primary reasons why prices have collapsed. I haven't seen any good arguments otherwise.

If Richard Fisher thinks the Saudis didn't know what was going on then he needs to rethink his position. I like Fisher's commentary on Fed related stuff, but he should know the Saudi's have their fingers on the oil pulse all the time. If anything the Saudis know exactly what they are doing by keeping production high because it is crushing Iran. That is their real target and they are taking advantage of the shale boom to put some hurt on Iran imo.

My point is that even if the US was energy independent through shale oil and other domestic sources Saudi Arabia would still be important to us because of how much oil they sell to allies and trading partners.

As for Saudis manipulating oil prices, I'm not an expert on oil prices but many people do believe and have provided evidence that the Saudis can and do.

Islam/Christianity, doesn't matter. They've both gone through periods of prosperity and dark ages. You just happen to live in a time where colonialism has divided up Muslims along geographic and arbitrary lines that has reached a boiling point in the last several decades.

It's really unbelievable that the more AroundTheWorld continues to post, the more that he or she continues to get owned. At first AroundTheWorld tried discussing the topic by using his or her typical propaganda starting points, but was subsequently destroyed by Northside Storm. Then he or she had nothing left but to resort to posting stupid one-liners and pictures after being TKO'd only to be owned once again. Lol, its just gotten embarrassing at this point.

I don't intend to be rude, but this is the history of Yemen. Just because you weren't paying attention doesn't mean it wasn't happening since before you were born.

Saudi-Yemen seize fire not going so well. On a side note, the Saudi defense minister is either 35 or 30 years old - my age. I know, it's crazy.

Saudi bombs are incapable of hitting innocents. We should know, the US sold them those bombs. The US has a history of supporting corrupt dictatorships. Can't see how it is any different in this case, and can't see why the so called CF liberals are so silent. Seems like this would be something they oppose. Is this done on purpose? Or does it speak volume to how badly everyone wants that cheap oil to get to China?

Not that the Yemeni rebels are any better than the Sauds.
