So, I am against the killing. If the shooter wasn't dead, he should have been arrested, tried and punished accordingly, like anyone who takes the life of an innocent.

Will Lebron James be wearing a shirt to honor the two dead officers? Will Obama make a statement from Hawaii? Will Al Sharpton lead a rally in these officers' honor? Of course not.

The ICan'tBreathe movement just died. It's in poor taste at this point to express disdain for NYPD after two innocent NYPD officers were just assassinated. ICan'tBreathe and the Ferguson protests are officially toast. And they accomplished nothing. A complete waste of time that likely increased racism against blacks.

This is pretty observant and empathic in terms of partial root causes, but to factionalize it across generational lines might be a bit unfair. The Northern agitators and politicians, and Southern white hiring managers, teachers, ministers and good neighbors and classmates who made integration safe and feasible for the two or three generations of engaged and attentive blacks up to now were all baby boomers.

Also, the balance of blame could be lain at the feet of black and liberal intellectuals, activists and artists who misspent political capital and sympathy of the late '60s to further self-segregate socially and culturally, and create contrarian behavioral and economic models through academia and mass media. That dissuaded Gen-X and Y blacks from fully assimilating or capitalizing on massive educational and professional opportunities over the last 40 years, creating a competency and talent vacuum that third-world immigrants were more than happy to fill over the same time frame.

The first words out of Michael Jordan's mouth in his retirement press conference were sympathy for recently slain Chicago police officers.

Obama already issued a statement condemning the senseless killing and expressing condolences to the family of the officers.

People were protesting after Ferguson/Garner not only because of the deaths but because they do not see criminal justice as functional in dealing with the killings. We don't protest every act of violence in the country because typically we trust the criminal justice system to deal with the persons committing those acts. People protest when they stop trusting the system.

The "bad apples" should be called out by the "good apples", but you know that doesn't happen. Instead, they are put on paid leave and come back weeks later.

Texxx, quit blaming this on the media. That's a cop out. Michael Brown's fate was decided by his and his family's actions; Eric Gardner was a victim of "bro-cop of the year"; the fate of these two officers was decided by this jackass.

And to add, when black on black crime happens and a suspect is identified, you better believe that there will be a trial and a guilty verdict.

Somehow, whack job white guy Eric Frein hiding in the dark, sniping a cop, and being manhunted for two months is no big deal but this whack job black guy in New York suddenly renders all civil rights issues irrelevant. You sound like Dick Cheney trying to excuse torture. Shut up.

Sucks to hear this. But what will it take for police to stop their abuse, at some point the people won't be able to take anymore.

I'd be even more broad if I could. The older generations have made such a ****ed up mess of things that an entire paint crew with rollers couldn't cover it all up. But these are the politically correct things to say. They could refuse to execute the unjust laws that are destroying lives and garnering distrust and disdain for the system, but instead they rubber-stamp the system of legal injustice that our legislatures have created. Its the failure of checks and balances before our eyes. The only moral choice they have is to either quit, or to refuse to apply unjust laws, so they pick immorality, and we're supposed to pity them, or sympathize with the because the job is thankless, they're underpaid, and they're hard-working? I think that's ridiculous. There aren't good apples in law enforcement, because nobody is making the moral decision to put a stop to the injustice.

My condolences to the families of the slain police officer & the family of the gunman...

I was going to post something about Islamic Gunmen taking random lives in our cities, when Islam is supposed to be the religion of peace...etc, etc, etc, but y'all know the dril by now.

I think that it's time to just mourn the dead.

If you were locked in a room full of the people they process at a police station you would piss your pants.
