Markieff is a solid role player. Marcus, on the other hand, was traded for a second round pick for a reason. He was one of Morey's worse picks.
Suns are missing the centerpiece. They have 2 guards that could be the third best player on a title team but probably not the second best. As the other poster mentioned they're basically the post Yao rockets when we had guys like brooks, Lowry, Martin & Dragic doing their thing in the backcourt
So what? We have two top ten players and couldn't get out of the 1st round. They're just trying to make the playoffs @ this point and build a winning team. They were supposed to be the worst team in the league last year, but went from 25 wins in 2012-13 to 48 wins in 2013-14 because they played together as a team. Duncan, Parker and Ginobili aren't really centerpieces or grade A players anymore, but they play together as an A-Team. It's about being patient and letting young players develop instead of blowing your wad on a star or stars and trying to win overnight. It takes time to build chemistry and you usually can't buy it unless you're getting the best player in the league.
Looks like TJones is set to get a 8 mill contract once he expires, Markieff and Jones are the same quality players IMO.
Yes we all love the overachieving team of role players getting the 14th pick. Who doesn’t love that mediocrity? You must not have been a rockets fan during that time, because it was terrible.
Lovin' it. Morris bro's and Dragic bro's. This TWINsanity has gone crazy! I've always been a Sun fan ever since Dragic went their. I just love the dude. Really wish we somehow still had him, or could get him in the NEAR future.
They get paid $28m between them, in comparison, if Dragic opted in (as highly unlikely as that is), the Suns would be paying more for Bledsoe, Dragic and Markieff than the Spurs are paying for Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. If you have those 3 and another 40-45m to spend on role players, you are going to be really really good. In conclusion STOP USING THE ****ING SPURS FOR COMPARISON YOU DAMN NITWITS
I didn't say the Suns are or will be a championship team anytime soon and you can't compare salaries because the Spurs have taken discounts to stay together. My point was that the Spurs win because of their system/coaching and playing as a team. They're able get the most out of B and C grade players while nobody is playing more than 30 minutes. It looks like the Suns are trying to replicate the Spurs system of playing a deeper rotation.
The Spurs have A players. Tony Parker is clearly an A player. A+. Duncan, while way past his prime, can get up to A level for stretches. Kawhi Leonard isn't an A player on the whole, but when you factor in his defense, get's up there. Point being, they have one definitive A player and a bunch of B+ players at worst. Then they are DEEP with B players. The salary cap is important because you can't replicate the Spurs depth without replicating their discounts.
I can't deny cap issues are important and the Duncan discount helps the Spurs immensely. I'm just saying that Morey's way of doing things isn't the only way to try to build a winning team. I would argue that parker is like Duncan and can be an A player, but more of a B player most of the time. He's a great offensive player, but questionable defender. Maybe a top 6 or 7 PG because of injuries. In any case Zach Lowe had a bit on the Phoenix signing of the twins which was posted in the Garm. He points out the signings of Bledsoe and Morris twins were a calculated risk with possible upside.
Suns locking up 4 years - of mediocrity... Markief isn't a bad deal... and nothing against Marcus, but I doubt I'd wanna tie up 2 roster for the next 4 years on the tweener twins...
Suns NEED to trade for Mason Plumlee, then sign Marshall Plumlee once he graduates. Goran Zoran Marcus Markieff, Marshall Miles, Mason Dat team chemistry doe.
Are the Harrison brothers still legit prospects? Maybe the pick up both. Then they can use the strategy where they'd just rotate the brothers so the other team never knows who they're actually defending.
