Why did I never listen to this guy before?

Probably because I spend most of my time listening to hard rock, alt rock, and country, but his voice is intoxicating, and his songs are just good.

Now that he's on the radio, he may be the best artist getting common radio play.

I sort of agree, but it seems like the guy is trying hard to replicate some of the sound of Michael Jackson.

His first album was incredible. Just full of really experimental, psychedelic production that pretty much made me like R&B again. His last two have been a little more standard pop fair, but still pretty good.

Ive never been much of a fan of r&b. But when music is good it's good. I like a few Weeknd songs.

    Also this Frank Ocean song.

Frank Ocean is probably my favorite musician, his music is just so damn good and doesn't get old to me. It's a shame he hasn't released anything in 4 years now though. If any of y'all want good modern RnB and not the radio Trey Songs sex crap, then Frank is your man.

at times I feel like I'm listening to Michael Jackson on cocaine, which is awesome.
I felt guilty at first thinking it was millennial music but I gave in.

Not an R&B guy but I do appreciate production values. The few songs I have seen are lush. Houston Super Bowl worthy? Maybe with Gary Clark Jr.?

    Would be awesome.

Would probably have Drake, too, for what its worth, as they are friends and both from Toronto.

I remember when I was listening to his first album a year before anyone else knew who he was. :/

His first album is great, everything from there is radio / pop driven.

Doesn't seem to me that replicating Michael Jackson would be a bad thing. Generally a good idea to take something great and try to make it even greater. In fact, surprised more haven't gone that route of MJ. Timberlake went for it at great risk to his career and he turned out alright.

This is like saying you're surprised more people don't try to play guitar like Jimi Hendrix. Many have tried to be like MJ. Only Timberlake and now The Weeknd have been good enough to come close.
