Rockets give guard multi-year contract August 2, 2000 HOUSTON (AP) -- Cuttino Mobley, runner-up for the sixth man award last season, reached agreement Wednesday with the Houston Rockets on a six-year, $31 million contract. Mobley had a league-high 23 20-point games off the bench last season and was the only reserve in the NBA to rank second on his team in scoring. He averaged 15.8 points and 2.6 assists and was runner-up to Phoenix's Rodney Rogers for the Sixth Man Award. The task of keeping Mobley, who also drew serious interest from Toronto, was the No. 1 priority for the Rockets this summer. Though they have salary cap exceptions of $2.5 million and $1.2 million available, team vice president Carroll Dawson said the Rockets do not have offers pending with other free agents. ``We're not going to give out our exception just to fill out our roster,'' Dawson told the Houston Chronicle. ``There's a lot of people that would like to be with us. It would have to be more of a player like Shandon (Anderson).'' updated at Wed Aug 2 15:09:00 2000 PT http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/ap/20000802/ap-rockets-mobley.html ------------------
Yea, Mark Berman also said that was the length of the contract 6 years, with a player option after the 5th. They also showed parts of the press conference and such...This is great news, especially the 6 years. In my opinion, this locks up Steve Francis when his contract expires. Steve did everything he could to get Cuttino back, there is no way he would leave after that, not that I thought Steve would leave. It just makes me feel better to know both of them will be here for a long time....
well let's just hope the rockets are in town in 6 years... i am going to hope they are of course but if they're in louisville or somewhere francis and mobley may want out ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited August 02, 2000).]
