When the position of need is the BPA lol

Nah, but to speak on the trade down stance.. When you trade down you collect additional assets on top of the 'need' you're trading down for. On top of that when it's time to make the pick that you traded down for that player may be the BPA so look back to what I started this post with, and add the asset you collected.

Rookies don't usually get to play for us anyway, so what need would we be filling? Unless we're talking about needs on RGV. Draft BPA and once he's proven himself, you can trade him for what you need, or you can let him walk to a rival for no compensation so you can preserve cap flexibility.

If you're a bad team and drafting high, your current roster shouldn't get in the way of getting the best assets you can get. When you're good and drafting low, you're probably not counting on some rookie to contribute any meaningful minutes anyway. Maybe you draft for need if you're a middling team drafting in the middle of the draft.

Well we are good, but not necessary drafting low because we have the Pelicans' pick. We could end up with a mid pick.
