I honestly can't see how anyone could think Chris Christie looked good last night....a guy who spoke of the merits of illegal warrantless wiretapping, taking social security benefits away from old people, and has run on acting against states that have voted to legalize mar1juana....how does anyone support that guy? I mean, Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Libertarian.....no one should be able to support him.
So on the same day as the Republican Debate, the Canadians had a leaders debate on the same day and their party leaders took the time to be a) civil and b) substantive in their discussions on Canadian policy. Meanwhile we have the clown show that is the Republican Party debate.
I pretty much agree with your opinion on the debate. Trump might not lose too many votes, but he has created a ceiling at 25%. No right-minded Republican (hopefully the remaining 75%) will vote for him now. I thought Cruz did a good job, though I understand when people think he is either too smooth or too shrill. While I think Kasich did a good job in appearing compassionate and improved his stock, I don't think I would give him universal acclaim. Rubio was intelligent and the best overall.
Yes, it's good for US politics in general and in the long run for the party. Being the party of NO, guns, corporate welfare and discrimination is a path to eventual marginalization because it is exclusionary while the general population is increasing it's diversity. It would serve us to have a two party system that debates reasonable positions. The result will be a one party system where all debate will be from within and that leaves it open to corruption and silenced voices.
That sounds like Democratic talking points....so you basically think it's good for Republicans to become Democrats. You might as well have just said that.
I consider myself moderate/liberal leaning and thought that Kasich put up a performance worthy of voting for. He came across as honest and thoughtful, not like the rest of the blow-hards in the debate. If Kasich can get more votes in the general election, he should be the nominee. I have 0% interest in voting for the Donald, Bush, Paul, Rubio etc... The republican party needs to stop overthinking itself trying to pandering to the base and find the candidate who would win the general election.
That's fair. Personally I wouldn't vote for a lot of the Republican field either. I'd rather vote for Hillary or Sanders over "the Donald", Chris Christie, Bush, or Ted Cruz. That said, I want to see more out of Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina and Ricky Rubio. I think those 3 represent the best out of this field. I plan on watching Kasich more closely from here on out and there's a chance he could end up in that mix.
If Ricky Rubio can't improve his shooting percentage he has no shot on making it out of the primaries. Plus no one thinks Rubio can lead the ticket. At best he will be setting up up some of the big players who can come through in the clutch. Let's also not forget his history of injury. Is that the kind of guy you want leading the team even with his gaudy assists?
