lol, production in the "no defense" Big12 means **** to scouts. Petty is a 3rd day draft pick, and might etch out a career as a back up if he plays his cards right.
I've watched nearly all of Mariota's college games and agree with this. While he is the best QB prospect and is likely to adapt to NFL offenses, I have some doubts about him. Oregon's scheme makes their QBs hard to evaluate.
I seriously doubt Mariota is the best QB prospect _ Winston probably is.... Mariota may not even be the 2nd best QB prospect either.
A lot can change between now and the draft, but I saw in the paper that Cook has decided to return for his senior season.
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/c...msus-connor-cook-says-return-season/18210927/ Things change, but I saw an article a couple of days ago saying that for his own good, he should probably return for his senior season. Seems like Cook might agree.
Two college players to watch Saturday In a weekly series, draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah polls five NFL personnel executives about college football's top prospects. 1) Baylor QB Bryce Petty (vs. Kansas State, 7:45 p.m. ET, ESPN): Petty was knocked out of last week's game with a concussion, but at publishing, he appears on course to play Saturday night. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound senior has been one of the most prolific passers in American over the last two years, but many NFL evaluators see that as a product of a system that props up almost every quarterback who comes through it. "He puts up monster numbers in an offense that doesn't have a history of producing successful pro-style quarterbacks," said one AFC area scout, who compared Petty to Matt Flynn and Drew Stanton. "He's a smart, high-character player. Decent athlete, with a strong lower body, but I personally don't see him as a top prospect." An NFC personnel man added, "He's a big, athletic, smart kid, but he needs to develop (away) from a spread offense to have a chance. Timing and accuracy are the concerns." For his part, Petty has thrown for 7,233 yards, 58 touchdowns and eight picks as a collegian, and playing against the sound, smart Wildcats defense should provide a good test. One thing scouts will be honed in on for this one: Petty's deep-ball accuracy with a talented receiver group around him.
Looks more accurate today than I have seen all year. His early accuracy issues may have been related to his injury. If he has a good combine he could be back in the mix as a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
He'd be a 2nd or 3rd day type pick, I don't think he's viewed that highly among scouts. Now that may or may not mean anything, but he's not a QB to target in the first round IMO. Of course that could change after his tape has been more thoroughly disected as the off-season rolls on.
He just wanted a smart vet that could fit into the system, and all things considered he did a good job despite the average Texans fan's inability to judge QB performance. That said, I'm hoping Mallett ends up being better.
Ive said that Fitz is a professional, did a good job and I would like him to come back as a backup next year. Glad to see you've got on the Mallett bandwagon, must have been the potential you saw in his first game because before that you said he was pure garbage and was gonna get killed because of his immobility. Its ok sometimes we have to admit when we're wrong.
He looked really good in his first game, any time you introduce new solid information to any issue I'm open to changing my mind. At this point, there's reason for hope, but a one game sample isn't enough to definitely say that he's that quality QB we saw in his first start.....but if he is the Texans are in good hands.
Just another Big 12 QB. No thanks! Cook is headed back to school.
