It is no secret that Gallo, our supposed primary lefty specialist, has struggled (to put it mildly) to "do his job" well enough. I still wonder why he still gets opportunities when for a long time Wheeler, Springer and Qualls have been "clutcher" in getting lefties out.

I am driving at something here but I will stop here for now.

Qualls is our most effective pitcher against lefties... hands down. But, Garner likes Qualls to be more than just a lefty-specialist pitcher, so he brings in Gallo for that.

Maybe in the playoffs, he'll manage differently. Plus, he'll have Wandy as a possible lefty as well.

    We'll see.

With Clemens/Oswalt/Pettittes/Backe as our starters in the Playoff shouldnt we just use

WROD as our main LEFTY from the pen?

FORGET GALLOOOO everytime he comes in, you can feel a homerun coming.....

To be fair to Gallo, he's been pretty damn good recently. He's come into face 1 batter 8 times this month, and gotten 7 of them out from what I can tell. His problem seems to be when he's used for multiple batters.

I think gallo has done a pretty decent job ever since we jettisoned franco. However, as pointed out above, he can only work a couple of batters before you start to get really worried.

I dont like Wandy as the big lefty becuase he's so inconsistent. At least with gallo I have some semblance of confidence.

The fascination with LOOGys is often silly.

I agree 100%. Garner just goes by the book thinking you have to have a lefty specialist to get lefties out. Yet Gallo gets righties out much better than he does lefties. He should be a specialist at getting righties out, I think they barely hit better than .200 against him.

Wandy will be useful in long relief duties (assuming we get to the playoffs). His stats against lefties isn't better than Gallo's so using him to get one man (lefty) out may not work better than what we get from Gallo now. Gallo's problem I believe is the lack of deception in his delievery plus lack of movement. The lefties know it is coming and in many cases they hit is hard (make good contact) even in outs.
