Rush Limbaugh says fiction character "James Bond" can't be black

Hollywood has shoehorned plenty of black actors into these roles already.

Why don't they shoehorn an Tibetan or Pilipino next?

 

It wouldn't work commercially, and arguing against that or trying to equate Limbaugh's observations with the Southern Manifesto won't change that or benefit blacks or black actors one bit.

 

I don't know, it might. The James Bond franchise has gotten pretty stale IMO and sure going with a black guy, or a woman or whatever would be just a gimmick, but a gimmick might be just what they need.

How can you say that after Skyfall? It's arguably the best Bond movie.

 

Would it be a gimmick if they hire Idris based on merit which he definitely has?

I honestly would prefer Fassbender, but Idris is a great choice also.

They always portray Jesus as a white guy, never heard Limbaugh b**** about that. Weird.

 

Well because they are changing Bonds, if Daniel Craig was going forward I'd say they had momentum because I liked Skyfall as well, but I think it's a "where do we go from here" sort of situation.

I wasn't meaning to suggest that he doesn't have merit, he absolutely does or he'd have never been in contention. I'm just saying that taking a traditionally white role and casting a black man, no matter how qualified, is a "mix it up" kind of move. It would be like casting a white Blade or like when they opted to go with black roles in the new Annie. it's a twist on what is traditionally expected. Sometimes it works, sometimes it busts. The rumors were that they wanted to go with a black Dr Who but the actor they wanted turned down the role so they gave it to Capaldi instead.

I think Idris would be a good idea for a bond and the fact that he's black would be an added twist to the role.

 

pretty soon the narrative will want james bond to be played by a transgendered black woman. Everything is nothing now a days........

 

The character was an allegory romanticizing British adventurism during the decline and repudiation of colonialism. Also, minorities don't watch Batman, James Bond or Sandra Bullock films to see themselves.

 

They also said he couldn't be blonde or blue eyed before the last series

 

He will never be American. That's the only restriction I've read about.

Only two actors have the gravitas to play Bond. Idris Elba & Michael Fassbender.

 

Nobody watches Bond films for that reason.

What makes you think the goal is to appeal to minorities? White people watch black actors too.

Did anyone have a problem with the new Karate Kid being black? Did it affect the movie's audience? Was it not commercially viable?

 

Skyfall made $1 billion plus at the BO. They don't need a gimmick.
