There is a reason why I try to avoid Williamson County whenever I can. They have one of the most over zealous police departments I've ever seen.

Do not ever break the law in WilCo...do not ever drive through WilCo if you can avoid it.

5 years to life for something that should be legal is really stupid.

This isn't a guy with a dime bag. He very clearly had an amount of the drug AND the setup that qualified him for felony drug trafficking. Even if mar1juana were hypothetically legal; a guy selling lbs of it out of his basement unlicensed would probably still be a felony.

Regardless of the amount, 5 years to life is stupid for mar1juana.

Excessive and a waste of taxpayer money for the trial and to house him in jail

Why is tobacco legal and not weed? This is coming from a non-smoker of any kind.

 Because you believe mar1juana should be legal you're willing to overlook felony drug trafficking? Forest for the trees man.

Yet another reminder one must be extra careful with the 'dabs' -- hash is a felony.

It's f-cked up that they're including the weight of the cocoa, flour, butter & chocolate chips. Otherwise this guy gets community service as a just punishment.

Gee, it's almost like the system is designed to over punish people, but that would only make sense if the prison industry is privatized, so I guess we can rule that out. Oh, wait.

Ummm, no. Re-read the article: 145 grams of hash oil (way above felony level), a pound of weed, plus scales, bags and assorted paraphernalia. That's not including the brownies. It sucks, but the kid got straight stone cold busted; he and his lawyer will plea it down to a misdemeanor and time served and community service and probation and all that goodness.

They must do things differently in Round Rock. I've never encountered a drug dealer selling weed brownies. I meant to clarify that my friends have never met a drug dealer selling weed brownies. I don't do drugs of any kind, FBI.

I read about this story this morning. What they didn't include in the Chron article is that a 'glitch' in Texas law makes so that the brownie ingredients are counted.
Since they can't really extract the hash oil to weigh it they include the whole shibang.

Between this story and that one guy who got 18 months for peeing on The Alamo it still angers me that the kid who murdered 4 people while driving drunk got off with probation.
