Fantastic first episode. It was like watching Goodfellas about the music industry. The music, the filming, the narration. Freaking loved it.

    That good huh?

You're going to make me renew my HBO subscription prematurely and before Game of Thrones begins!

Too many things on Sunday nights, but plan on checking this out tonight. Basically looks like the whole Boardwalk Empire producing/writing crew giving their spin on the Rock industry, and its HBO. It can't possibly be bad, although there is no promise of it being truly great.

Watched through a big chunk of it last night after the walking dead, have about a half an hour left. I thought it was pretty good as well. The direction, acting and storyline was very impressive, I'll keep tuning in....

Andrew "Dice" Clay (or whatever he is calling himself these days) as the radio magnate was brilliant casting. That whole scene in the mansion had me laughing nonstop.

The ending for the episode w/ the NY Dolls 'bringing the house down' was slightly contrived, but an absolutely brilliant plot device. Exclamation on the pilot 'movie' and pivot point on which the whole series hinges.

I watched it fully expecting to like it, but I didn't really like it.

Maybe it's just the whole lead drama anti-hero thing getting a little long in the tooth.

    Sell me on this.

I have a love/hate opinion of the 1970's; I was a little kid during the time, and to me, everyone was hairy, dirty and chain-smoked, which left a lasting impression on me as just nasty. On the other hand, I regard the decade as the best for Rock, Country was good, and Disco was a nice icing on the cake as the greatest 'good times' music ever.

I like it somewhat and it is interesting viewing material with the production being really well done imo. But, it is like watching "Entourage" except this is the music business. I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. A bit of both with mediocrity in between. And, really, if Mick is highly involved in this...then he needs a character or a cameo in it. We need some breaks from the main scruffy nerfherder coked out character and his schtick.

From what I've read through episode 5 the series is going to focus more on the murder and his relationship with his wife. Does not sound intriguing. I've already seen that show hundreds of times. I hope the "critics" are wrong about their reviews of what's upcoming as I really enjoyed the 2 hour pilot.

2-hour premier was a bad idea, it seemed to really drag at times. Loved the music, some of the acting was great (Ray Romano, we hardly knew ye), but I think Bobby Cannavale is at his best when he's playing arrogant jackass (Boardwalk Empire) as opposed to unsure, recovering addict, ball of stress.

If this turns out to not be great, there's still the Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/whatever series also covering the 70's music scene that's coming out sometime. Can't remember the name but it looks good.

richard hell doesn't think much of it. personally, it comes off cringeworthy like its trying too hard. as the expression goes, some have it, some don't. this doesn't.

Yeah I got the same feeling. There isn't really anything genuine about it. Feels too manufactured.

Yeah, I'm with those not really feeling it. I love the subject and the period, but that pilot really bogged down. Won't give up yet though.

It looks like it's telling the crazy truth. The cocaine binge psychosis, ripping off artist etc.
