I recently started a car-buying tip thread because I wanted to buy my wife a new car, and sell the one she has now before it becomes undrivable. So yesterday my wife heads out the door for work, 2 minutes later she calls me cell saying the car won't start. I just close my eyes and shake my head HOPING it's a dead battery. So I'm checking it out now and everything in the car WORKS fine... lights, stereo ect. What comes to your mind as to what could be wrong with it? I do NOT want to "Waste" more money on that car by taking it to a mechanic.
Could be a lot of things... Have you checked the alternator? Was the battery ever in question of being low? I've had a battery that has had "jitters" too. Sometimes it looks like its perfectly fine and other times the car won't start like the battery is messed up. If that's the case, you would need a new battery. But besides the battery, there are other things it could be... How much mileage does that baby have?
It has around 77k. It's been slow at starting over the last few months, it would take a good 6 or 7 seconds before it finally turned over and revved up.
Could be the starter itself too... My father's Nissan Maxima had that problem for a while... It could be the battery, the alternator, or the starter. Those are the only things I can really think of off the top of my head.

sounds like a battery going bad. The accessories will still turn on sometimes even with a bad battery. Get a jump and take it to an auto parts stores, they do free system tests.
Guessing. I own a Ford and even I know that guessing is a great way to spend money on parts that don't need replacing. If you can get the car to an autozone, ask them to check the codes on the car. Free service and it can tell you what issues the car is having. Sometimes it is as simple as that, and sometimes, you need to use the codes to figure out the part that is causing the code. So again. Pull the codes and let us know.
Sounds like a dead cell on the battery. Get it checked at Autozone, also check your battery connections for corrosion. People always blame the car itself for lack of maintenance.
How old is the battery? Cold be an issUe with the battery? As said beFOre, bring it to Autozone to get it checked out.

Well I bought a set of jumper cables and it still will not start. If it did start, I'd drive it to the autozone store to get a new battery, but I really don't think thats what it is if I couldn't start it with the jumpers. If I had to replace the starter, any idea what price i might be looking at?
Yes do this. They'll check to see if the battery is good or no good. Than you can scratch that off the list and go to the next probable cause.
