http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12549830/nba-qa-larry-bird-russell-westbrook-tanking-more I am pretty sure that the Golden State "buddy" in this story is former Rockets big man, and current T-Wolves color commentator, Jim Petersen. Petersen went to college at the University of Minnesota and played a couple seasons in Golden State. As a PF/C, he would also be a good candidate for someone who posted up agaisnt McHale. Edit: Jim Petersen just replied to me via twitter that it wasn't him, but rather Chris Engler: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/englech01.html Here is an interview that Jim Petersen just did with Nylon Calculus:

Also today @NylonCalculus, talked to the great @JimPeteHoops about analytics, coaching & what's great about the WNBA: http://t.co/LhyFUFoDy6
— Seth Partnow (@SethPartnow) March 26, 2015

McHale said it was Chris Engler. Chris Engler. I told him, fake left and come back right, I'll go for the fake. He was excited. I already planned on blocking it. I said you know better than to test me. We were both laughing. Every time I see Chris, he brings up that story.
haha...he probably did that to his son, too....and his hunting dog. Somewhat like this: fwiw: Engler and McHale weren't teammates in college. Engler was from Minnesota but went to Wyoming. Maybe they were AAU teammates or something.
Engler went to Minnesota before transferring to Wyoming. September 14, 1986: McHale Gives Ex-Teammate Real Big Hand
This is true, teammates often couldn't find him, especially during the fourth quarter. I guess not much has changed.
McHale confirmed it was Engler to Patillo this afternoon on 790. He had even warned his teammates to watch what was going to happen. He was still laughing about it.
I absolutely hated McHale growing up because he was so damn good. I don't understand why more players don't try to emulate him. He had sick moves in the post. A 6'11" version of Scola that could use both hands.
Havent you heard. Articles say that theres a new 4, the stretch 4. The game is changing according to them and is based on stats. Yet, the best teams have a traditional low post threat. Zbo, horford, duncan, nene....
