Here's a great quote from an article in CNN today:

(CNN)When Selena was breaking concert attendance records at home and abroad, there weren't a lot of crossover pop stars who looked like her in the United States.

There was Rita Moreno and Gloria Estefan and ... well, that's about it.

The March 31, 1995, death of the Mexican-American singer plunged many Latino listeners into mourning and brought her music to the attention of English speakers who would soon become fans.

Never heard of her until after she was murdered. She would have been a star if she lived. Better singer than j lo.

So it was 20 years ago today, I learned who Selena was. I remember my mom telling me that "Selena" died and I had no idea who she was talking about.

for me the only thing worse than hearing the news that selena died was when princess Diana died. I stayed up all night and cried about that one.

Believe it or not, there is something about mexican culture and that time period that selena captured, that really reminds me of when I grow up in texas in the 70s.

One of my all time favorite songs is wasted days and wasted nights. I can hear my childhood in selena's voice. So forgive me if I don't give a **** about issac newton. knowwhatimean?

Being a fan of Selena is great. Not giving a **** about Sir Isaac Newton is a big ignorant. I remember reading this book called The 100 Most influential People in History, and they had Mohammed #1 and Jesus Christ at #3, with Sir Isaac Newton at #2. Thought it was joke. After I read it, I understood.

    Have some perspective, please.

No, no, no, no hell no, she did not.

I love the "I grew up listening to Johnny Rodriguez, Texas Tornadoes, etc... in the 70s" yet Selena of all people is the one that formulated your tastes.
