I don't know why you are in this thread wasting your breath. Shouldn't you be reading theorems to your blow-up girlfriend. #perspective

Anyways, I didn't know there were people out there that hated Selena so much. Damn.

Don't ever be sad, because somewhere something more important is going on.

I remember as a 15 year old hearing about her death and, like others in this thread, learning who she was for the first time. Then I remember the outpouring of sadness of grief following her death that sort of pissed me off because a lot of it felt disingenuous.

Sort of felt the same way when people went nuts over Kurt Cobain dying as well, but I had at least heard of him prior.

In the Mexican community she was a huge deal. I wasn't a fan of her music until well after her death but she was a pretty big deal.

Sigh. Just got the sads after watching some videos. That mighty god potential wasnt even reached. It was brewing, you can see it coming a mile away. My heart feels like it gave out.

You were pissed off because you felt that since you had never heard of her that she must be a nobody and so people's sadness over her death were just a contrived plan by the grievers to make Selena herself seem bigger than she actually was?

And you were a little less pissed off at Cobains death because you actually heard of him?

I get it, but I think you are relying far too much on your judgement about what the world should think is important, or not.

Grammy Award winning Singer who was on track to being the first Shakira.

Imagine if What happened to Selena happened now a days? Young star murdered and women barricades herself in a car? It would be everywhere.

You are confusing past with present. I was 15 and far more concerned with not liking things that other people liked. I didn't say I'm pissed off right now, dude.

I had no clue who Selena was until the late 90s in elementary when some girls in class would sing her songs and say they were singijg Selena. A couple of years later in junior high, ky Mexican gf told me she was like Tupac and Biggie for Mexicans and we watched the movie. You can see the potential she had. She would have been Jennifer Lopez before Jennifer Lopez. Selena had the voice, look, body, charisma, etc. She would have been huge. It's unfortunate a jealous manager did that.

Selena's passing was huge to the Hispanic community (not just Mexicans)
I can't recall another artist/celebrity whose passing was a bigger deal than Selena. Perhaps Chespirito or Cantinflas but that's about it.
