How simple and predictable our offense is.
All we do is pick and roll, every single play is pick and roll, that's so easy to defend. If Dwight is in the game we either pick and roll or give it to him in the post. Look at the Warriors offense, the spurs especially, the ball is constantly moving, they have high post cut to the rim plays. That is why when harden is not shooting well we struggle, because everyone is just watching.
Get some double screens in there, some backdoor screens, cuts from high post, off the ball screens. We're just very predictable, good win last night but if James is off pick and roll doesn't work since we don't have great finishers besides James.

You forgot to mention harden isos.

It's not just this year son.. Yes we had a great run, but isn't our offense the exact same all the time? We have Lawson, use him! When did James ever shoot on a screen catch and shoot? When does Dwight ever catch at the high post and hit a man cutting backdoor? The offense is dribble up, pick and roll pass out and shoot a 3,James drives, attempts pass to the screener. Teams like the Warriors know this and defend it well.

welcome to morey ball. its not going anywhere anytime soon. when are people going to stop with these comparisons of each others offenses. teams are built a certain way with their personnel. it doesn't work that way with why doesn't houston play like that

theres no secret to any offense in the league. each team has their own sets and strengths they play to. it may be "predictable" to some of you but its no different than any other offense running their own system in the league.

The offense itself isn't a problem. The Rockets have had one of the top offenses in the league for the past few years.

Movement isn't going to help if the defense knows all they have to do is stand around paint even if Harrell, Brewer, Jones, Capela, and Howard are running around. The defense knows these guys are just going to come back to paint. Even Ariza doesn't need to be guarded too closely at three point line as defender just needs to be close enough to close out as Ariza isn't much of a threat taking it to basket if Ariza pulls it down.

Even with all the bravado Morey has said about this team, I expect he is trying to acquire either a backup PF or a backup SF (or both) that can shoot. At this point, I think Rockets may be trying harder for a backup SF that can shoot than a PF.

I'll take the reliable Harden centric iso pick and roll all day long.

    It is simple, but effective.

We do it, son, because it works. Who gives a damn if everyone knows what is coming. Just because you know, doesn't mean you can stop it easily. Just because a team knows that it is coming, doesn't mean that we can't execute it. The problem is when we only have one person handling the offense, which is why we got Lawson. Just because something is simple, does not make it bad. PnR is like rock, papers, scissors. There are 3 possible initial outcomes and you can only stop one, maybe two of them if the D is really good, each time.

It obviously doesn't work against Golden state. I did mention Lawson, and said USE HIM!!! but it's the same thing as if Harden had the ball, it's just Lawson now, and Harden is standing at the 3 point line.

what has worked against GS? Obviously all the other teams in the league are still trying to figure that out just like the Rockets

Look Harden went off last night and we barely won, we will have those games, but come playoffs, this type of offense isn't going to win because our big men can't shoot. All I'm saying is that wee need more back cut, back screens, plays off the high post where the Center actually has the ball at the high post, we need James coming off picks. Our offense is too simple to tire out a defense, when it's on great!! we're hitting 3's and we can beat anyone, but sometimes an easy basket on a back screen is better than Harden ISO.

Golden state scores a lot of points, but the offense we play doesn't tire them out. Green is never huffing and puffing because he's just on the block waiting. Curry has to bypass 1 screen and watch harden dribble dribble dribble then shoot. You have to make them work. Let curry come off 2 screens, and swing the ball, then drive. Something to make them work and get them tired.

    agree.

i am looking to a dmo's comeback. he's probably the only big we've got who can shoot the ball, whether or not off a p&r. but again, i dont remember we ran a ton of p&r's last yr. that ended up with a dmo's j.
