Stern has basically said he had to do what was right for the hornets.

I think stern did the right thing . If the hornets had taken the other deal they would have been on the treadmill mill of mediocrity but now they will suck for two years and get good.

If it is true that that is what he said, he needs to step down as NBA commissioner.

His primary duty is to treat all teams equally and fairly under the same transparent rules, which he did not.

He had put people in place (Jac Sterling as Chairman and Dell Demps as GM) who were supposed to make the final basketball-related decisions for the New Orleans Hornets. By not letting them make the final decision and instead - as NBA commissioner! - making a decision solely based on the best interest of the Hornets vs. the best interests of the other teams involved - he had an obvious conflict of interest and violated his duty to be impartial.

    He needs to step down.

If Stern wanted to be GM, he should have said so from the start, not appoint a puppet to bargain in bad faith and destroy the time/resources/morale of other teams.

The owners who all own the Hornets demanded stern make that move.

and its only a coincidence that Cuban, Gilbert and Jordan have gone out publicly to argue the restoration of competitive balance and not the interest of the hornets as the main consideration.

I think Morey got outmaneuvered in this one. Usually, he's the one who stays one step ahead of his opponents, but, this time, Stern was one step ahead of Morey.

    Uh, no, you're an idiot.

Stern said he made the decision "free of influence from other owners."

If he made the move because of other owners, that's COLLUSION.

Please get a freaking clue or stop posting your idiotic crap.

All owners have a conflict of interest. Stern knows that and that's why he lied and pretended that his decision had nothing to do with what the owners said.

The whole thing of the NBA owning one of its teams is evidently problematic, and the only way it could be "lived" in a somewhat proper way would be to have completely independent management that can act as quasi-ownership (except when it comes to selling the franchise, of course) and that is not in any way subject to directives by the other owners or by the commissioner.

Exactly. Obvious conflict of interest is obvious. Any owner will always put their 100 % (or whatever the stake is, but it will be higher than 1/29) ownership interest in their own team above their 1/29 ownership interest in the Hornets (which obviously, contrary to what morons like flippedfk keep blabbering, does not include management control of the team in any way).

And now as team owner and General Manager of the hornets , David Stern will complain to himself when the officiating does not favor the hornets...he has to do what is right or the hornets....there's a reason you grant a team "autonomy".

Stern basically said when the league decided to buy the Hornets the NBA Board decided that the Commish would have final say on transactions involving NO players. It's actually more fair that way, as other teams shouldn't have a say. Acting with that authority, he decided the trade wasn't best for NO. And at the end of the day, he got a better deal (he didn't say that). So get off his sack.

Les, hasn't said word one about this whole mess. Les should sell the damn team because its obvious he doesn't give a crap. Cuban & Gilbert are crybabies but at least they care enough to get upset. Stern should be fired and publicly humiliated for the supreme screw job he laid on Houston & his inability to manage the Hornets situation.

    WOW! Another mediocre season.SMH:(

Yeah, we shouldn't be upset that Stern mismanaged the whole situation and completely screwed up the Rocket's offseason.

Are you kidding me this crap?

First, it's obvious that he vetoed because of other owner's objections, which is ILLEGAL.

Secondly, he should have made it clear to the Hornets what he wanted in the first place, so that the Rox and Lakers didnt waste time negotiating a pointless trade.
