The Astros are below .500 with Correa in the lineup as well. They were 10 over .500 when he was called up and finished 10 games over. They are 4-8 with him starting this year. They were 4-2 when he did not play last year after being called up, so they are 6 games under .500 with him in the starting lineup. Lesson - it's a team game and records while position players are in the lineup are rarely attributable to a particular position player over the course of a season.
CC's numbers .279 avg .857ops. He actually helped the team but a player of his ability has to step it up this year for this team to have a chance. More confidence!
So are records attributable to two particular players in the lineup? Of course each player affects the won/loss record of a team. It is usually more pronounced in basketball with 5 players and less so in football with 22. But there are plenty of position players in baseball that have a huge influence on their team's record. The question is how much? This can be measured in part by production but there are also intangibles that aren't so easily measured. My question would be if (even though he hits for low average and doesn't get on base enough and strikes out at an abominable rate) perhaps there are enough intangibles combined with his stellar defense that make Jake Marisnick a better team player and a better option in CF than Carlos Gomez.
Meh I think the offense will be better this season..... My concern is the rotation, I see a lot of 4-5 starters outside of K. McCullers coming back and being good is going to be huge...... otherwise there will be another prospect dump for a higher end starter.
He didn't play every game down the stretch, sat quite a bit in September and was actually pretty good when he played during that stretch They will sit him this year too without a doubt, but not till he gets at least 100 or so at bats
I was just pointing out that, in general, win loss record based on one position player in the lineup is not indicative of that player being a detriment. I suspect had Correa not been in the lineup most days last year, they would have ended up with a worse record. I have plenty of confidence in Carlos.
Yea we are middle of the pack in runs scored right now, and should only get better As you said, gonna have to get McCullers back and possibly go get one more in order to last a full season....plenty of depth to do so
Good news is that Kazmir has given up 10 runs in 14 innings...dude has been on a downward spiral. Good move to not resign him. It gives us a better chance to go get someone else.
