I am struggling to understand the difference between democract and republican. They taught me in middle school but still can't figure out the difference between them. I have looked up words online but still have difficult grasping the concept between them. Can you explain to me the examples of both parties so that I can become a better voter in the future? Which party do you usually support, democract or republican, and tell me why you choose it?

Republicans are against big government and are for protecting the amendments. They believe capitalism is great economic system.

Democrats lean more to socialism, like what you see in Europe.

The Republican party of today is what's left of the old Dixiecrat wing of the Democratic party.

Republicans support arresting kids for bringing clocks to school.

    Democrats laugh at them.

I'll let Huey Long answer for me, since he has the best answer of all time:

In words, there are lots of differences. In actual practice if you study their behavior in office, there are differences on minor issues like whether to cut spending or have public spending, how to deal with abortion, whether to privatize/publicize health care a lot or a little, whether to increase war spending a lot or a little, etc.

Think of them as two divisions of the same party. They both support the disenfranchisement of US citizens in their own country, keeping worker insecurity sufficiently high, saddling the population with debt, allowing the richest people to use their unearned wealth to have a major advantage in society, allocating resources to protecting those rich people, protection of large corporations who funded them in the first place, expansion of an empire which disregards the rights of non-Americans and support for the arms, finance and pharmaceutical industry.

Typically you'll find that candidates are the same except for the one candidate that is supposed to scare the f*** out of people with bat**** crazy ideas. That drives people to keep things the same, the comfort of certainty. This marginalizes anyone who wants to actually change the fact that the two parties are so similar. The biggest donors in America also allocate their money accordingly, placing bets sometimes as if it's a basketball game. It's not unusual to find donors giving a lot of money to their favorite person and a lesser sum of money to their safe option from the other party.

All in all, I urge you to not listen to me or anyone else here in isolation. Think about who you think is the least likely to lie about the facts and see what a bunch of them say. I get my US news from a combination of msnbc, rt america, fox news, reddit, new york times and democracy now. I feel like this gives me a strong 360 analysis of anything that happens.

Is this a serious question? You actually don't see the difference between the two parties?

The OP is obviously young and possibly a first time voter and instead of someone trying to help him educate himself you are all b!tching.

Listen OP, I am not american but I know this. The difference between political parties aren't all that much in reality. You may be young and full of dreams and ideals but politcs are always riddled by corruption and even if you think that you make a change , everything ends up turning out the same. - grumpy old lady rant.
But seriously you will not find any answer here. Because most ppl in this subforum are cynical and bitter a$$holes. Not to say even some fanatics.
Talk to your parents, friends and teachers to learn more. Noone can tell you what is the right way to vote you gotta find it for yourself.

You know there is a great likelihood that the teachers/administrators involved in this were Democrats?

Start with the policy from each party and go from there. Learn about each issue you care about yourself. Don't rely much on anyone but your own thoughts and feelings. There are significant differences and some similarities.

I find it humorously predictable that you should question my assertion but not gifford's...

How's this from your beloved DailyKos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/03/28/851829/-Teachers-Should-Vote-Republican#

    To highlight:

"There are two unassailable facts surrounding the recent attacks on public education. First, the primary source of attacks on public school teachers comes from the Republican party. They have attacked public school teachers on almost every front, from alleging they are grossly incompetent to impugning the training of teachers as unnecessary and suggesting anyone should be allowed to be a teacher.

Second, teachers’ unions have been the backbone of the Democratic party in recent years. From organizing to funding, teacher unions have emerged as the inheritors of the great tradition of organized labor as the major pillar of the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, as a consequence, Republicans view any money provided to teaches the same as money to fund the Democratic party.

Derivative of these two unassailable truths is a more fundamental truth: the Democratic party sees that teachers have no place else to go. The Obama administration sees that to broaden its political position it needs to appeal to marginal Republican voters and independents. To do that it adopts the clothing of Republicans on issues. Their fundamental belief is that the teachers, and several other core Democratic party constituencies, have no place else to go. So by acting Republican the Democrats can appeal to marginal Republicans."

The Tea Party is now what the Republicans used to be, the Republicans are now what the Democrats used to be, and the Democrats have fallen of the left side of oblivion.

This is correct and the basic concept to understand. Past that you have to figure out how you feel about human rights, personal freedoms (etc) and vote for the candidate that you identify with - if there is one.
