Free agents: 2009 and 2010 (please do not qoute entire article too long)

Those who have been observing the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks, among others, maneuver to create salary-cap space already have heard about "the Summer of LeBron." That's 2010, the year LeBron James can opt out of his contract with the Cavs.

But the offseason of 2010 is not just the Summer of LeBron. It's also the Summer of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd, each of whom can become an unrestricted free agent in 2010.

And that's not to mention all the restricted free agents, as you can see below.

Of course, not all of these players will reach free agency. But some will, which is why we're already hearing buzz about the summer 2010.

Take a look and see whom your team could lose … or which players it might ink in '10.

Key: ETO = Early Termination Option; P = Player Option; T = Team Option

I would like to see Houston find a way to pick up Manu and trade either battier or ariza to make room. He easily replaces ariza's contributions and i think he's one of the few gys who could replace battier's leadership. He'd also become our go to guy late in games, along with brooks. The question would be how much and for how long. There's no doubt Scola will be calling him all summer.

Manu is pricing himself right out of the equation. The dude has looked incredible this last part of the season so I'd say 3/30 million at the very least. Sign and trade would be our only chance and then the question turns into...would the Spurs sign and trade with us?

Manu is by far the Spurs MVP this season, Spurs will surely resign him.

Manu is unrestricted, so even if the Spurs want him back and are willing to pay him big, it's up to Ginobili. We all know Manu is al about winning, are as most of the Argentinian players, very competitive. For that reason i dont think money is #1 on his list. That could help Houston out a lot. We're also likely to re-sign scola, which has to be a HUGE plus. They've fulfilled most of their dreams, and i think playing together in the NBA is one they havent. It's also a short move and change from SA to Houston.

As for a sign and trade, would the spurs be willing to take back battier or ariza knowing they're going to lose Manu? Usually i'd say yes, but it leaves them a huge hole at SG and packed at SF, so i doubt it. However, Jefferson is a big expiring next year, perhaps they can ship him out for a SG, which i think is a realistic move, since he hasnt fit in like they hoped. A capable SG and ariza/battier is a better fit for them.

Manu is a premier offensive player, no doubt. Manu, however, cannot replace Ariza's help defense and length. Houston needs Manu and Ariza to firestorm themselves, to contend.

Don't be so sure of yourself my friend. Manu wanted an extension last summer and the Spurs didn't give it to him. I dunno if any team is gonna want to sign him long term though because of his age. Most of the teams that have cap room this summer are longs way away from being contenders, so I think his choices are the Spurs or a sign and trade.

A name that I haven't heard people talk about is Drew Gooden. He's a free agent next season and is a having a coming out party for the Clippers. He can give you 10 rebounds and a 1 or 2 a game.

Rebounding is a weakness of ours, but we need length, size and defense. Gooden provides none of that.

Isn't Gooden like 6'11? He's as tall as Hill. The height isn't the problem. He doesn't seem like a guy that is consistent at both ends.

Two players that could be interesting for the Rox are Raymond Felton and Anthony Morrow.

Raymond Felton - If Brooks is moved for any reason then Felton could step in and be an adequate replacement. They shoot about the same, assists are about the same also and while Brooks is more explosive Felton is a better defender.

Anthony Morrow - Not sure why the Warriors aren't playing him as much as they did earlier in the year but the guy can shoot the rock. 48% shooter and 45% three point shooter so with Yao he would be ideal at the 3 point line. He is restricted so not sure how much the Warriors are willing to match but 3yrs for 9 million would be ok in my book maybe even the LLE.

Gooden is pretty inconsistent...he's still has a lot of game left, but he doesnt try sometimes....lately hes just boosting up his value so he can get paid this offseason...let someone else overpay him

Manu is more than an offensive player, he's a pretty solid defender. He won't have the length that Ariza has, but he'll definitely be a solid help defender. More than anything he'd bring championship experience and a competitive attitude very few in the league can match. Plus he's clutch, and he can be clutch in more ways than one. we need all of that in the worst way..

I would love to get Tyson Chandler, if he signs for the MLE.

And Manu would be a great addition too.

    Brooks / Lowry
    Martin / Budinger
    Ginobili / Ariza or Battier
    Scola / Hill
    Yao / Chandler

    Very, VERY solid.

Chandler? Ain't happening. He has a player option for about 11 million - why wouldn't he execute that?

We had a chance to talk with Gooden in the past offseason.

Didn't even try then, I doubt Morey will want to try now.

Can't see us trying Manu when we already have Martin. And no playing both isn't a option unless you have Manu playing the point. But would we really be willing to pay old boy the funds it would take to leave his sweet setup in SA behind, just to use him off the bench?
