Taxpayers paid millions to NFL teams to "salute troops"

They also spend money to run commercial advertisements on television and place ads on websites. Should we debate the DoD's marketing or the NFL faux-troop-respect?

 

The latter really.

The NFL wraps itself in the flag to distract from its troubles.

This has long been the case - why do you think there are flyovers and national anthems etc.

Now it looks like the Billionaires that run the league have managed to con the DoD into paying them millions to do something that they'd voluntarily do for free.

A more optimal market outcome would probably lead to the reverse - the NFL paying the DoD, rather than vice versa.

 

Corporations get all kinds of tax breaks and now they're F'n over the tax payers again by making the military pay for advertising for recruiting... Only in America.

 

The government willingly paid NFL teams as a marketing channel, and now that they've reaped the benefits they want their money back? This isn't 'funneling,' this is marketing spend. What's the problem?

Its called propaganda, same thing as the military allowing Hollywood movies to use their equipment for this same purpose. You don't show the military in a certain way you don't get access.
