I read somewhere earlier in the day Melo made it clear he wouldn't sign for 3-years with the Nets and the Nets won't trade for him unless he does.

If true, I would wonder why not... he'd have Lopez, an older but very battle-tested backcourt in Billups and Hamilton, a billionaire owner and they'd be playing in Brooklyn before too long. Granted they'd have little depth beyond that top 4 (Travis Outlaw, Vujacic), but they certainly improve.

Only 4 games out of the 8th seed, the Nets would surely become a nightmare for the Heat/Celtics/Magic in a potential 1st round series.

    Billups
    Hamilton
    Anthony
    Humphries
    Lopez

    6th man: Travis Outlaw

Doesn't make sense to me from Denver's perspective. They want to build around Lawson.. acquiring Devin seems to impede that? I could see Devin being flipped to another team for an additional 1st/prospect..

if this was 2 years ago, the nets would have been the clear winner. but billups is mediocre this year, and rip is inconsistent. but their target is melo so i guess it doesn't matter.

but this is a great deal for denver.

and that is what they will do. devin does have a lot of trade value.

knicks are on another level nationally in the media. melo's stardom would increase ten-fold (as you can see with amare) if the knicks go deep in the playoffs.

That may be, but sometimes a trade can surprise you. I'd say in Rip's case, he seems to be moping... he may be re-energized in a trade like this.

The Nets are irrelevant right now. Anthony gets them a seat at the table...

If Anthony is leaving regardless, I agree -- would be a great move for them.

you may be right about rip. but i've seen billups play this year and it's just not there. but hey, if rip and billups have 2 good years left, the nets would challenge immediately next year. and they can still make the playoffs this year if they pull off the trade soon enough.

Billups started out slow, but his production is back, last month, he did 19/6 on 45/48/82. This month, less assists, but points are around 20, and even better shooting.

Adrian Wojnarowski: As @Al_Iannazzone wrote, NJ-DET talked as part of Melo 3way. Talks died when NJ wanted DET 1st rounder AND dump Petro on them, sources say.

Man, if that trade did happen, they come from being one of the youngest to one of the oldest team. The roster would look ok now, but in the future they would be in trouble cause they won't have draft picks to add talent.

That line up scares no one.
Billups is a shell of his former self, Hamilton is on his last legs, Lopez is soft as they come, and Humphries is dating a hot chick.

That could make the Nets something near the Kidd/Richard/Kenyon Martin team that went to the Finals when you factor in Brook Lopez. Except this year there's the Heat, Magic and Celtics that are better than those Nets teams.

Because he is going to the Knicks and he has made it 100% certain there is nothing Denver can do about it or the trade they trade him to. Carmelo is pulling a Superstar move like Amare, Bosh, Lebron did. Its the new trend. Teams have no power to say other wise unless they like one year rentals.

That and he is a selfish pampered baby like those guys. He is not getting traded to the Nets. Mark my words. He will be a Knick next year.

I'd do this trade if I'm the Nets. But would dump Petro on Detroit and give one less first rounder to Denver. Denver isn't getting a better offer anywhere else, they get to dump Billups AND get quality players back?

    In my opinion:

    Favors/Harris/First Rounder/Petro

    Melo/Billups

    Hamilton/Petro

nets give up some quality talent in this one. Favors and Harris are not scrubs.

Good thing for Melo is they bring his point guard in who he has played for a pretty long time.

Also, Hamilton and Billups have some chemistry from the championship days which is only a positive.
