Oh man ... if that's true, the Rockets must be trying to clear space to bring in a couple of impact players in the summer.

Does anyone know if there is a chance that this deal could be modified, or is the entire deal just f***ed?

Stephen A Smith is wrong. You can not trade for a player an amnesty him.

I have been listening to Stephen A's LA broadcast since it started about an hour ago and he never once mentioned the amnesty piece. He is indeed saying that Stern has vetoed the deal.

Broussard just reported that Chris Paul is now seeking legal action. Will basically go on strike and not report to training camp tommorrow.

The fact is this is clear as day Conflict of Interest in the part of the NBA. This will not be pretty for the NBA. They made a huge mistake by vetoing a trade. Also we have yet to hear from Jerry Buss, one of the most powerful men in basketball, who is sure to destroy the league office legally over this.

My comment is more on Stephen A Smith than that.

I heard on Yahoo that it probably the Lakers Buss who axed the deal. He looked at the team and said without Pau and Odom we really are not going to be competitive and have nothing to get a Howard deal done.

It has NOTHING to do with the city of Houston, it has everything to do with these star players wanting to play with other stars!!!! If this continues I am done, I'm already a fan of Toronto and I have to deal with the fact that no American player wants to play up North. Now you've got players creating this new SUPERGROUP of teams. I don't necessary want the owners to dictate who plays where, but they've got to change the rules.....

Yeah but playing alongside a great PF in Gasol would be much more attractive than with Martin/Scola. He's not missing out on much if he doesnt come here now; Gasol would have been one of the main reasons he would want to come here.

I'm actually wondering on what legal basis the league office thinks it can block that deal. If it is valid under all the rules of the new CBA and the acting GM of the Hornets makes that deal...what is the legal structure? Does he have to get approval of the deal from a superior? I don't mean the general NBA approval you need for any deal...but the kind of approval you normally need to get from an owner.

If Stern acts as arbiter and "owner of the Hornets" at the same time, then that is most definitely messed up.

I don't blame him, but that's the way the league is.
