So we all know that Morey and the Rockets would be willing to gamble on a Dwight Howard rental but how far would DM actually go?

I would assume Lowry,Martin,Scola or Lowry,Martin,Dalembert plus a young talent in Budinger/Patterson/Morris + Both 14th and 16th picks or if we acquire a lottery pick for both 14th and 16th. And possibly taking on Hedo's contract as well.

Can other teams top either of these offers for a Dwight rental? Would it be too much of a gamble?

IMO, it's a win-win scenario for us if we do acquire D12. We could land another star to pair him up with if he stays. Or we could finally start rebuilding if he leaves after next season.

No way he goes to New Jersey. The only team i see us competing with are the Lakers if they pull the trigger on a Bynum for Dwight deal.

There is no competition if the Lakers offer Bynum, that blows anything we can offer out of the water.

A Dwight Howard deal is a real long shot, IMHO.

Rockets help facilitate a Howard trade to Brooklyn or LA.

If the Lakers offer Bynum, perhaps. But which teams would actually give up their players for a 1 year rental that would top ours?

I could live with facilitating a trade of Howard to Brooklyn...but if we help the Lakers end up with Howard, I'm going to be pissed off.

A Dwight rental would not be worth the players and picks it would cost to get him.

And yes, it would be a rental.

    Lets move on please.

Like the others have said other than the lakers i don't see any real competition. I guess golden state could offer something but we have Lowry and martin which in my opinion trumps their assets besides their 1st round pick.

The only thing worse than not having a super star is having a super star who doesn't want to be on your team.

One can only imagine what a "Morey's Oden Package" thread would be like.

Why? Howard is getting older, does not play team basketball. I'd much rather have Bynum at this point in his career

The thing about the Rockets and what they can offer for Howard is that Houston has a huge amount of talent that is non-essential to the future of this team. Now, it is debatable who is essential to the future and who is not, but it is inarguable that we could give up a huge amount of players and picks and not be any worse for it, just because of the amount of redundancy that this team has in its talent. For this reason, Houston can overpay in any trade they make this off season, and not suffer from it the way teams like New York have after their All Star pursuit efforts.

For example, the draft picks, those are worth less to us right now then they are to other teams, because if we use them to select players, those players are not going to have a place on the roster to contribute like they can on other teams. That is what happened to Morris last season. Houston can give up picks, Martin, Morris, Lowry, Patterson for pennies on the dollar, and since they have so many players of like talent right behind them, overpaying for a star or a high pick will not hurt them.

The absolute worst thing Houston can do is what they did last year -- which is wait and do nothing. That would force their talented players and their value (which most certainly has a shelf life) to continue to decay and be wasted non-productive assets.

The Rockets can not only afford to be a little reckless with their offer for a player like Howard, they can' afford not to be.

It would be just like the Rockets to help facilitate a trade of DH to LA in order to acquire Pau Gasol...

Look for an LA landing, in Clippsville USA. With an extension agreement. Bye-bye Mr BlaKia Griffin and DeAndre.

Would you please stop with the Bynum for Howard trade? It doesn't work. Bynum is on a one-year contract. The Lakers just picked up his option. If Orlando did that, they'd have the same problem they have with Dwight right now and Bynum is not as good a player anyways. It's a total ridiculous trade suggestion at this point. Won't happen. Case closed.
