Imagine the reaction if Daryl Morey drafts Alex Poythress in 2013. Play for a K-school? Check. Is he 6-foot-8-ish? Check. Does he make up for it with "wingspan"? Check. Not clear if he's a three or four? Check. Still intriguing to me though as a power forward prospect. Big, strong and looks like he could be a beast in time. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GhrsKFOz5GE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FOy6KzL-t0w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I would LOVE it if that happens. He is like a bigger and stronger version of Kidd-Gilchrist. He's great close to the basket and isn't afraid of contact. Very strong and hoes hard to the paint. So far in his last 2 games he has shown he can be very efficient underneath the basket.
People keep saying that 6-8/6-9 is below average height for a PF. But if Morey keeps drafting them, the numbers will average out over time and it will be the new average! Seriously, though, this could happen. Three words: Best. Player. Available.
No question, especially since the top three picks this year are at the two spots we don't need as much (C and SG). I "think" the BPA philosophy rules the day, but does go down a little the higher up in the draft they are. I can't remember when or where, but I thought I've heard this before. I agree with gah ... Poythress seems to have a high motor and terrific athleticism. Is he a legit power forward? Seems crazy since we were mocking that Terrence Jones pick, but if the Rockets think he's best available where they pick, we could be talking about taking Kentucky's power forward in the first round 3 of the last 4 years.
As if Coach Cal didn't need another recruiting pitch: "Come play for me, and you could be the next PF for the Rockets in a year or two!" Also, I doubt the BPA philosophy changes much at the top of the draft. It's still a tiered system for most teams, with only similarly-tiered players being ranked by positional need. Even at the top of the draft, that shouldn't change.
I love this kid. Saw him against Duke, and immediately starting daydreaming of a Poythress/Jones SF/PF combo off the bench. Looking forward to following his progression. Would be a tough sell on the current roster though.
Definitely a small forward not a PF in the NBA. But we already got 6'10 Chandler Parsons who can do it all.
I believe it was Chad Ford that said he and several scouts, GMs see him as a potential #1 pick. Doubt we can get him.
Boy was I way off. Goodwin is terrible and so is Poythress. So far the only good freshman on the team is Noel. This class was a bust. Hello NIT
Have you watched him in college? This statement is completely false for how his college play has been
