Is this a more aggressive side of Battier we may be seeing more of this year without stars to support? My thoughts are yes.

he has talked about the reason he doesnt look to score more under normal circumstances, it wasnt the main thing his coaches ask of him....until this year.

In a recent interview, he talked about how with a lack of scoring options this year, coach was asking him to be more aggressive in looking for shots...I think that is what we are seeing so far. I expect him to continue to be this aggressive in looking for his scoring.

Battier may look for his shots more but this clip doesn't show that at all. It's a buzzer beater. It's either shoot or a likely 24 second violation. It's simply the shot that any player who is not stupid would take. Battier took those last year and the year before, too when he was not "aggressive."

Battier taking shots with 10 or 15 seconds left on the clock would be make a better case for him being more aggressive.

Calling glass does make a case for him seeming more aggressive.

Why would he wait until we're pretty much on the verge of being a lottery team to look to score rather than when we're in the playoffs attempting to contend for a championship?

    That makes no sense.

Not calling you out Rockets2K but it makes no sense on the part of Battier.

Because he used to need to defer to guys who needed their shots (Yao, McGrady, Brooks, Scola). Now there isn't anyone who is a focal point of our offense, so he needs to shoulder a higher proportion of the load. It makes perfect sense.....

Because Yao was a more efficient option going 1 on 1 and Artest needed his touches and now they are gone so everyone else will get to use more possessions and shots?

When you're surrounded by better scorers you have to look for your shot less. Derek Fisher and Rick Fox could actually score, but deferred to Kobe and Shaq. Ron Harper was a 20ppg scorer on the clippers. How many points did he get in Chicago? It's about playing your role. If Garnett, Pierce, and Allen all got injured you'd be seeing Kendrick Perkins trying to score.

Any clips of Chase, Pops, and Lowry from last night?

This will be the first time he is actively looking to shoot more now instead of hanging out in the corner(still does that but its fine now since he's scorching hot) and adds to the unknown and surprise element of this season. Can't wait to see how everyone fares in new roles.

Stop being a douche. It makes perfect sense for Battier to be more aggressive now than in the playoffs, where you want your best players to be scoring. Believe it or not, other teams want Battier shooting 10+ shots a game during the playoffs. Most of the time, it will work to their favor.

he shot it because there were 2 seconds left on the clock, not because he was trying to be more aggressive

on that one shot shown in the clip....true.

but if you have watched all the games so far, adn still try to say Battier has not been actively looking to shoot(being aggressive) than you are either blind or being willfully ignorant.

did all those other's answers answer your question FLASH? Seems perfectly obvious to me.

Shane seems to be a player who's going to try and perfect what he's doing, as in, he's going to practice it a lot until he gets it done, he's not going to put it into play if he's only got it 30% or 40% down,, etc..In his mind that would not be efficient. Even if he got it to 70% it may not be efficient to him if someone else has their own move or type of shot 80 or 90% down. Looking at his jumper, his wind up has been cut back and therefore the trigger on his shot is faster, i think he started making that tweak late last year and now he's comfortable enough with it to shoot a higher volume of shots...and that tweak is probably building up to a pump fake move, like he used on the vid, that he can use more consistently. Before he would have been almost blocked or would have to shoot very high to get that jumper off.

First of all,he is no scorer, although he has the ability to do more than 7.3 a game. He stepped his shooting in the playoffs at home which was welcome, but it's wrong to say it was only because of the guards that his away scoring average came down appreciably.

Even against Portland he ended up with 3 points in Game 2, 4 points in Game 5,below his regular season average. Everyone needed to pickup their share, with Yao being fronted all night.
    Game 2 against the Lakers he got 6, Game 3, 6 again. Game 5, 5 points,and Game 7, 3 points.
His defense against Roy and Kobe wasn't enough, although the rest of the guys apart from Chuck and to a certain extent Ron and Luis didn't pull their weight on defense.

I think he will try harder on both ends now,but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have done better in the playoffs away games on the offensive end.

Battier is a decent offensive player. People criticized him for being one dimensional, but he is smart enough to know that every shot he takes is one less that Yao takes, and Yao shots are a higher %. The reason Battier is such a good player is he does what the team needs, not what the fans want.

@Flash saying he waited till we were on the verge on being a lottery team, I don't know why you think his lack of aggression was a bad thing. In the playoffs, his assignment was Roy/Kobe, and he did a great job. Much better than Artest, thats for sure. Take a look at Ariza who was supposed to come here and be an offensive spark. So far far, Battier has been a better player on both ends of the court.

i do think he will be more aggresive but this clip doesnt indicate that...

if the time is running out ur gonna throw it up so that shot doesnt show aggressiveness it shows shane simply trying to shoot before the buzzer
