I didn't watch much GT this year. Can anyone give me the scoop on this 6-6 PG that has a 42 inch vert and did 18 reps on the bench?

Can't shoot, not a point guard.

He needs to be groomed into a defensive combo guard. Quick, strong and athletic.

He's an athletic monster. Quick, strong, and can jump out of the building. Jump shot needs a lot of work and he's not a point guard. He may be the best defender in the draft. If someone would take the ball out of his hands, have him work on his shooting and make him accept a role he could be really valuable.

Athlete with little in the way of basketball skills. There's a reason GTech sucked the three years he was there. He's really explosive but seldom exploits this advantage. His jump shooting (and set shooting) is awful, effectively making him an offensive liability against any team with half a brain coaching them.

GTech was able to surprise a few opponents in ACC play by being the most athletic team on the court, which they were in most cases except when going against FSU the last two years and UNC last year. But still, unless you were coached by Roy Williams (4 losses against GTech the past two years), you back the F off Shumpert and it just becomes clank city. He is not a natural passer, he does defend well but is inconsistent, and projecting him to the next level I think he's just another fringe guy, another athlete lacking in bball IQ to stick around for a long time (Von Wafer, James White, Gerald Green, etc)

Sounds good as a running partner for Wall.

He seems too much like a Gerald Green or James White clone - all the ability in the world, but very low IQ. He gets stuck a lot on offense and throws up a tremendous amount of poor shots and has a high TO rate.

Shumpert's ability to defend instantly makes him better than those guys. But you're right he's a major head case who's got to learn he's not a star player & he needs a jumpshot.

Maybe he just needs good coaching. Seems like a Kawhi Leonard type of player.
