Great movie. A tad long. But still great. I had never thought much of Jake G before Prisoners but since then I've been checking out his movies and he's a brilliant actor. To me he will be a big success revelation this year.
Just finished and Jake G stays elevating his game. Idk but after this performance he made me really believe that he can pull of being a Joker for a batman movie..
GREAT Flick. It doesn't spoon feed the audience, which I really like. Thoughts: Spoiler Great movie about a modern sociopath. So many clues in this movie that add up to Lou being a genuinely sick ****- the intro scene where he walks away with the security guard's watch after maybe killing him (which he is wearing at the end of the movie), then proceeds to ask for a job a few minutes later. Doesn't care about the suffering of his subjects or his rival but keeps a meticulous 'collection' of all of his films. Sets up his partner to get shot (completely telegraphed, if you pay attention to the movie). I also love how by the end of the movie Russo's character is in love with Lou after going from mildly interested to creeped out. I had a suspicion that he might start committing crimes to get the scoop and was sure that the murder house hit was orchestrated by him. But after the cops find hidden drugs there it seemed more coincidence that Lou gets there first (although they're way out in the middle of nowhere as his partner comments). The movie really nailed his worthless partner, although his higher moral ideals seemed a little out of place. I thought the cops might nail him for withholding evidence but I was glad that they didn't. I love it when the villain wins. Awesome character movie. I would put it up there with There Will Be Blood in terms of great acting (TWWB was much better overall, though). Jake G is the king of weirdos.
one of the best movies that I have seen in a while. I couldn't believe he let his partner go out like that LOL!
Yea i was rooting for him on everything up until that. You already knew something bad was going to happen when he just decided to give him half, lou obviously takes no for an answer, but what i dont get is how did he get away from what the lady cop suspected him of...
I thought it was actually just a good allegory for small business and his character was just a hardass manager and entrepreneur, without a lot of the class and social polish that executives obtain as they navigate internal hierarchy and try to build rapport with larger customers or vendors. I kind of think they planted a few specific lines and scenarios to firmly label him as a villian, since all of his antagonists were implicitly ethical or grounded public servants journalists; rather than just assertive and opportunistic.
No evidence of any communication leading to motive, and his profession and the similar actions of other colleagues creates all kinds of reasonable doubt.
You were rooting for him after he power played Rene Russo into ****ing him...and not only ****ing him, but putting more effort into it? I usually don't trust power talkers because to speak it means you have to play it, and to play it, you have to live it. He fit perfectly in that world as a sociopath. Anyways, how he got away with it was because she couldn't prove intent and none of her suspicions would last in court. He didn't give her any openings for her to investigate.
Great to see Bill Paxton back in the grind, he could have just pulled a Larry Hagman and played the same character after Big Love.
Jake G. was great. Thought the movie was ok. Above average but not spectacular. It wasn't formulaic but you could still see everything coming once you were half way in. The only thing you weren't sure of exactly was how they'd end it... Which is just a script decision that could go either way. I'd have preferred it to go a different way Nonetheless definite Oscar worthy performance by Jake G. Could have seen that winning it even.
