Especially after trading Rose and declaring they wanted to go "young and fast". This is the exact opposite direction...
Wow feel bad for Wade. Wade put Miami on the map, he was the reason LBJ went there and brought two rings to Miami. From what I understand Wade's been taking discounts as well, Stephen A Smith said Wade cut down as much as 25M total the past few years in pay cuts. 10M is a slap in the face when you have guys nobody knows making 12.5M Riley is a total dbag. Much as I don't like the Mavs, I think what Cuban did sacrificing 2 years of competitiveness to pay Dirk is WAY better than what Miami did lowballing then forcing their franchise player out. Wade wasn't even that bad, would an offer of 15-20M kill them?
According to LeBatard, that's not the whole story. Riley tried to get him to take 10M with a wink-wink that he'd get something like a 1-yr 37mil the next year. It came down to Wade not trusting him to make good on that.
Sounds like all of Riley's credibility just left to Chicago. I can imagine there is going to be a lot bad-mouthing about him among players
I wonder if they would have still signed rondo if they knew they were getting Wade, another guy who doesn't do much from long range
And he was right not to trust Riley. Just a prior year Wade took less to allow the team to make moves and then comes back and Riley says.....hey can you take less one more time? I promise, I promise I'll make it up to you. Promise.
Forgot Valentine, Snell, McDermott, and Grant. How are the rockets younger, projected starting lineup has Bulls at 28.3 and rockets at 29.2
Not sure why anyone would 'LOL' at Riley? Are 8 championships really that funny? I also don't get why anyone would be mad at him in this instance? He gave Wade a generous offer that was turned down. He drafted Wade and made the move for Shaq which allowed Wade and the refs to win Miami's first NBA championship. Chicago is a joke now for giving him that ridiculous contract. Are people legitimately faulting Riley for something here or is it just leftover butthurt from him not sucking up to LBJ before he went to CLE?
I don't buy the "Poor Wade - he took a huge pay cut all those years". Let's compare the 'sacrificial salaries' made by Wade to play with LeBron and Bosh to have a shot at titles, and compare those salaries to the league's best player: 2010-11: Wade made $14.0M. LeBron made $14.5M. $500K difference 2011-12: Wade made $12.5M. LeBron made $12.9M. $400K difference 2012-13: Wade made $17.2M. LeBron made $17.5M. $300K difference 2013-14: Wade made $18.7M. LeBron made $19.1M. $400K difference The differences over those 4 years are minimal, and LeBron was and is clearly the better player. After LeBron left: 2014-15: Wade made $15.0M in Miami. LeBron made $20.7M in Cleveland. 2015-16: Wade made $20.0M in Miami. LeBron made $22.9M in Cleveland. "Poor Wade" has made $153M in his career to date, with another $47M committed. He never was asked to take a Dirk ($8M/year over the last 2 seasons) or Duncan ($10M/year over the last 3 seasons) hometown discount. He's a guaranteed Hall of Famer, but he's never been disrespected with pay by the Heat. He's been paid well, and he earned every penny. Miami's offer of 2/$40M nets about the same as Chicago's 2/$47M when you factor in the 9.75 state income tax that is about to pass in Illinois which will cut him down to $42M net. It was Wade's decision to make to go back home. I hope he's happy, and he's been fun to watch all these years. Maybe it's best for both teams, and all involved. Legends move on...even Dream finished as a Raptor.
The issue isn't with the $40 million offer. Rather it was with the initial $10 million/year offer which set the tone that the Heat didn't really want him back unless he took a massive 50% pay cut.
Once again, that offer was made with a wink-wink that the rest of it would be made up on the back end.

Pretty obvious that Wade is gonna be bought out. Where does he go next? Does he fit in Houston? Seems that he'd want to play more minutes than Houston can give him.
